Queens Park Rangers players cancel Christmas party Queens Park Rangers players will not hold a Christmas party this year because of their position at the bottom of the Premier League. Diplomatic: QPR captain Park Ji-Sung and his fellow players have decided it would be wrong to hold a Christmas party after winning just four points this season Photo: REUTERSBy James Restall 11:03PM GMT 04 Dec 2012 4 Comments On the day West Ham issued a statement denying Andy Carroll had been involved in a physical confrontation with a photographer during the teamâs Christmas party in Dublin, it emerged that QPR players had decided against holding a party of their own. Playersâ Christmas parties are a long-held tradition for English clubs but have generally become more discreet in recent years following some high profile misbehaviour. West Ham were adamant yesterday that neither Carroll nor any of his team-mates had broken any club rules during their authorised âsocial tripâ to Dublin from Saturday to Monday. But QPR players have decided that to hold a party this year would give the wrong impression to supporters when they are marooned at the foot of the table. A club spokesman said: âWe wonât be holding a Christmas party this year.â When asked why this was the case, added: âHave you seen the league table?â The players took their decision without involvement from manager Harry Redknapp, although he is likely to have approved. At his former club Tottenham, Redknapp last year ordered his players not to have a party. West Ham insisted yesterday that Carroll, the most expensive British footballer in history, had not done anything wrong during the party which followed the clubâs win over Chelsea and saw players dress up in all-white outfits. A club spokesman said: âAndy Carroll was in Dublin as part of a social trip with full permission of the management team.â âAndy agreed to have a number of pictures taken at the request of a photographer who was waiting on the street. "Despite this, the photographer then carried on taking photos in the proximity of Andy and was politely asked to stop by the private security team working on the trip. "When he then continued taking more photos he was restrained by the security team for Andyâs safety. Eyewitnesses state at no point was there any physical contact between Andy and the photographer.â A spokesman for the Irish police in Dublin said officers received a report of an incident at 2.30am on Monday morning. A press photographer claimed he had been assaulted in the capitalâs main shopping district, Grafton Street. Officers at the cityâs Pearse Street station are investigating the incident. West Ham confirmed that police took a number of statements from the group at the hotel. No arrests were made. Swansea told the Telegraph their players had held a Christmas party in London following last weekendâs victory over Arsenal while several other Premier League clubs said they were not willing to disclose whether their players would hold parties.
not ignoring the league position but would anyone really begrudge the team having a christmas party i wouldnt
Well, I'm not having one either...................... Over the pass couple of months, my alcohol intake has doubled and I blame that completely on our team and their performances. So now, with Xmas just around the corner, I've already p_ssed up my 'Xmas Consumption Fund' and now look to sell off any of my wife's favourite belongings to prop up my newly created 'Emergency Slush Fund'. Must support my team!
I think it would do them good to socialise. Bit of team bonding without getting completely smashed might have been a good thing
Well as I'm heavily into training for 'Tough Guy' in July I'm not going to have an Xmas party and going totally intoxicant free over Xmas ( ok I might have a bit of light refreshment when I see 'The Prodigy' in a couple of weeks time ). If its good enough for me then it certainly should be for them.
Can only do them good to have a bit of a party, loosen up a bit. If they took it before a free day and are in good shape the morning after the morning after, I can't see there should be any problem.
They were going to have one, but cancelled once they heard that Joey was coming back for it, and bringing his cigars.......
They're too embarrassed to have one, they know it will look bad in the paper the next day, under some witty headline, taking the piss out of them.
Can't you lot see it? Serious dressing room unrest. It is obvious that they don't really like eachother and so don't want to socialize at a Christmas party. You see, I can read anything in to anything.
Agree, maybe they can be formally introduced and find out each others names Spot on Eamon i reckon you have xray vision as well
