BT Spot decide to make the game on sunday a 12pm kick off... no train on Sunday from London gets there in time, no consideration for Charlton fans in my view, all worried about TV figures Why should we have to book a hotel over night in Sheffield because of it? I luckily go to uni in Leicester and have a Sheffield United fan who might be able to give me a lift, but still, I feel sorry for the fans who now can't make it up all because some TV executive.
I'm driving up. Just checked, train on Saturday up there say 5pm £30. Train back anywhere between £30 to £70 on Sunday, hotel room another £70 plus food and drink. If I wasn't going Ireland for Paddy's day I would do that but cannot justify it.
Ridiculous decision. My sister lives in Manchester so I guess I'll stay there on the Saturday night, not happy though.
I stayed over in the promotion season and had a lovely duplex hotel room for £40. If anyone needs the details I'm sure I can dig them up.
It's silly to schedule the game for that time, but that's what we've come to expect from the powers-that-be in football these days. I'm trying not to get ahead of myself here, but if (IF) we get to the semi-finals, I would still rather they were at Villa Park or Old Trafford than at Wembley. Staging the semi-finals there dilutes the magic of the final in my opinion. I know that we'd almost certainly lose the semi-final, and as a result would miss out on a day out at Wembley, but I'm a traditionalist. Does anyone else agree?
I do captain, but if they're aren't played at Wembley the FA get less money, so the morons making these decisions wouldn't be paid as much.
I do. Or at least I did; now we are a game from Wembley I think it's a wonderful initiative to play the semis there. Also it gives most Charlton fans an easier journey (potentially!).
I just feel that, if we did make it and I went to the semi-final at Wembley, a small part of me would think 'this shouldn't be here'. There would be a pleasing connection with history to see Charlton in an FA Cup semi-final at Villa Park.
I never agreed with semi's at wembley... but as it's been said, the chance we may well get there i'm not complaining
Can't go now. I have a kiddies football team to manage, wouldn't let them down even for CAFC. Gutted.
I'm ecstatic from my own point of view, this will be telecast on Espn at 11pm sunday night ! No need for a monday off work this time.
Yes and No. I preferred the traditional semi final venues, but realistically we won't get many opportunities to see our club at Wembley. I have been lucky enough to see us play at Wembley twice, although I can't beat Captain who I believe saw us win the FA Cup there in 1947.
I'll be in Cornwall for my rearranged holiday, but I'll be getting a full report from FHB jnr., who is in Nottingham.
I think it is great that we are a game from Wembley but as we have a Sheffield Wednesday fan in the office today it has reminded me of what looking too far in front does. With our history of cup runs, lets just wait until next weekend to be talking of Wembley. By the way has anyone tweeted Michael Vaughan to gently remind him of the score as he was so confident of beating us 3 or 4-0.
Made a few enquiries and a hotel & train and three tickets for the match is costing me £275. The joys of the Cup
