QPR defender Max Ehmer has signed a contract extension that will keep him at Loftus Road until 2016. The 20-year-old German has been at QPR since 2003 and progressed through the youth system, although he is yet to make his first-team debut for the Rs. Ehmer has played on loan at both Yeovil and Preston and, after training with the first-team in pre-season, he is now hoping to make the step up into manager Mark Hughes' squad on a regular basis. 'I'm really pleased,' he told the club's offiicial website. 'It's an amazing feeling to be signing a new deal at such an exciting time in the club's future. 'This summer has been my first proper involvement with the first team and I've enjoyed every moment. I've been in and around the first team over the last few years and now I want to step that up a level.' Ehmer was later joined in penning a new deal by Michael Doughty. The 19-year-old has first-team experience thanks to loan spells at Woking, Crawley and Aldershot and has also been capped by Wales at Under-19 level. Doughty was part of Hughes' first-team squad during pre-season and is delighted to sign a three-year extension to his contract. 'It's a great feeling,' he said. 'It's nice to know the manager wants me here as part of the long-term future.'
Nice to see some 'home-produced' youngsters make the step up, in a few years this should be commonplace...
On the right road. Lets hope some more are on their way. I expect Harriman to be the next one to sign an extension.
Hughes must really think they are future 1st teamers as clubs dont usually give 4 year deals for young players. Lets hope they dont turn into bert big bollocks and waste their 1st big payday.
Good to see. It is obviously felt that they have potential. It would be good if we didn't have to rely 100% on signing players from the outside with young guys that have an affinity with the club.
I read an interview with Ehmer (on here?) a year or so ago and he seems really grounded and mature so fingers crossed.
Wasn't it Doughty's dad, the Forest Chairman, that recently passed away? He'd have been well proud of him...
