Ambition: Joey Barton hopes to return to Marseilles Ambition: Joey Barton hopes to return to Marseilles Charlie Crowhurst QPR midfielder Joey Barton hopes to return to French club Marseilles. The Merseyside-born playmaker spent the 2012-13 season on loan with the Ligue 1 side before returning to England. The former Newcastle and Manchester City star made 25 appearances helping the club seal Champions League qualification as runners-up in Ligue 1. Barton, 31, told French radio station RMC: "I have not lost hope to come back to l'OM one day. "I felt l'OM really wanted me for my first season and I didn't have the same feeling then. "I didn't feel such desire. # "Marseille had other priorities with Dimitri Payet, Florian Thauvin or Giannelli Imbula. "What happened last summer? "It was a difficult situation. "I was still under contract with QPR, it was a financial matter." He added: "If I had joined l'OM, the difference would have been huge, about â¬2.5 million. "It is difficult for a player to accept such a wages decrease when you don't feel you are a priority. "I have some regrets. "I love l'OM, the city and the fans. "Why not come back on the staff?
It was always about the money, and those of you that are kneeling at his altar - I must choose my words carefully - are more desperate for our team to have footballing success at all costs than I am. Call me vicious, unnecessarily vindictive, unforgiving and I'll accept it all - In my eyes, Barton is not a part of my beloved club and never will be, even if we are to be promoted with him in the side do you think we'd or he'd welcome a 10 year reunion? From my parapit looking down, I plead with the congregation to never lose it's class in fact I beg you. DT - Was in Madrid recently, Oh my Godfathers how many fantastic shoe shops, now I'm normally quite staid in my shoe wear but the Mrs. was mightily impressed when even I came back with 4 pairs of the snazziest shoes I think I've EVER bought!! Come on you RRRRs -
Tell a lot about a person by their shoes Today I am wearing olive green Clark's wallabees ... Barton has tasted the south if France albeit not as good as the Languedoc IMO ... Life changing regardless of all sports ... When my place is fixed up then N606 discounts could be introduced
My position on Barton is pretty well established, but the fact that he is here for the money doesn't make him any different to virtually all, in fact probably all, of our other players.
TBH he is no different to 99% of footballers when it comes to taking the money. But to be balanced he is different to many we have seen taking the money - at least he has a conscience to perform on the pitch.
Not fussed about the fact he is only still with us for the money. As long as he does his bit, I will support him even though my inclination would have been to sack him last summer. It's the idiots in the boardroom who worry me. The ones who sanctioned that amount in wages in the the first place for an average Prem. player past his prime and with a notoriously short fuse. Hopefully they have now learned that lesson well.
