Jan 19 2012 By Paul Warburton ADEL Taarabt has been warned his new QPR boss takes no prisoners when it comes to standards on and off the pitch. The midfielder has yet to meet Mark Hughes because he is about to spearhead Morocco's cause in the African Cup of Nations that kicks off tomorrow (Friday). But Taarabt is no stranger to tantrums as his team-mates are all too aware. Former boss Neil Warnock mostly accomodated the talented player's sulks - he will get no such lenience when he returns to the Rs fold - as Danny Gabbidon can testify. The former Wales international played under Sparky in the national set-up and agrees the boss's nickname is a perfect fit. Gabbidon said: "He's quite calm - but he has got that side that when he says something you know it's been said. "The manager will want to get the best out of Adel but he needs to be managed in the best way. "Hopefully, he'll come back and looking forward to playing with him and as long as he works hard there'll be no problem for him, but that will be up to Adel." The Rangers defender also admitted Saturday's home clash with Wigan was more important than the mouth-watering FA Cup clash with derby rivals Chelsea the following week. Gabbidon added: "It's a massive game on Saturday, and we have to beat the teams around us. We're not even thinking about Chelsea right now." http://www.ealinggazette.co.uk/sport/qpr-ealing/2012/01/19/qpr-warning-for-taarabt-when-he-meets-sparky-82029-30156327/? I've got a sneaky feeling Adel will step up to the plate this time.
After reading this I actually felt less confident about him staying. I can imagine him wanting a move to a club where he gets more game time and doesn't have to work as hard for it.
There's been that lucrative bid from some UAE team - £15m or thereabouts was it? That would fit your criteria to a tee. Thing is, that and Moroccan international status at best would do nowt for his aspirations for top billing down the line. Hughes is his real ticket to become what he wants to be. If he takes that option he'll have to sweat it out like at Tottenham - but with better opportunities given our lack of midfield options. Can't help thinking there'll be times when he wishes it was still Warnock nurturing him!
Hell, they may actually be best mates! They're probably going to be get along famously. "Sparky 1 calling Sparky 2......." that sort of thing. I am looking forward to it.
Unpredictable outcome. However, if Adel continues tantrums etc, he will deprive himself of the advice and nurturing of a manager who might just have what it takes to turn him into a truly great player. Adel, like Frodo, poised on the brink! Will he choose wisely, or will he turn to the dark side (if you will excuse me mixing my movie metaphors)?
