QPR want to sign David Bentley from Tottenham but at less than half the £16million Spurs paid to Blackburn for the former England midfielder.

The Premier League new boys have just been taken over by Malaysian entrepreneur Tony Fernandes, and with money to burn, Rangers have targeted White Hart Lane’s forgotten man.
Spurs boss Harry Redknapp has been desperate to get rid of the right-winger for over two years, but has struggled to find a side willing to pay a large enough fee for the 26-year-old.
Redknapp recently left the winger out of his 25-man squad for the Europa League, and could finally be willing to accept a cut price offer just to get Bentley off the wage bill.
Bentley himself has made no secret of his plans to leave White Hart Lane after a frustrating three years, and may fancy a short distance switch to the ambitious west London outfit.

So now we are apparently after Bentley, SWP and Puncheon as wingers. Something tells me that some of this 'reporting' may be inaccurate. Puncheon seems most likely to me.

it shows you what sort of "reporting" we have here when you get phrases like:

"The Premier League new boys have just been taken over by Malaysian entrepreneur Tony Fernandes, and with money to burn .... "

We do not have "money to burn". The money has to be (and probably will be) spent wisely.

The journos are now looking down at their list of players and, having drawn lines through those who have already moved this summer, are linking us with all the rest rated at under £12m.

At least we won't have anymore reports from Italian agents saying that QPR have been in touch about buying their 39yo ex-international for €5M ........... will we?

i would like bentley, it isn't too unrealistic IMO as not many higher teams will want to take a risk on him but he has something to prove and cant have lost too much ability

Queens Park Rangers manager Neil Warnock is keen to start spending some money to improve his squad ahead of the transfer window closing at the end of the month and has set his sights on Tottenham winger David Bentley, according to reports in The Metro.

QPR have just been taken over by Malaysian tycoon Tony Fernandes, and Warnock will have cash available to strengthen his squad.

The newly promoted side got their first points on the board at the weekend with a 1-0 victory against Everton, after being thumped 4-0 by Bolton on the opening weekend.

Warnock's only business in the transfer window so far this summer has been the signing of former Blackpool striker D.J. Campbell.

However it seems as though Warnock, has set his sights on the outcast Tottenham winger, with Bentley himself making no secret of his desire to leave White Hart Lane.

Last season the 26-year-old, England international spent the second half of the campaign on loan at Birmingham City, but had a number of lack luster performances and could not help prevent the side getting relegated.

It is believed a bid of around £2.5million could see Bentley make the move across to west London.

During the last campaign Bentley made only three appearances in a Spurs shirt, before heading on loan to Birmingham where he made 15 appearances and only scored one goal.

For this price it could be a good deal

Agree Norway, £2.5 mill would be a good bargin. However, would have preferred to see Bassong come in to replace Gorkss who seems set to join the Saints and Jenas

Yeah, doesn't make sence since they paid £16 mill and his still only 26 years of age.
But then again they got Levi in charge and as long as theres no takers and Spurs want money in before Arry can spend, then just maybe hes available for a cut price fee?

Looking at all the rubbish in the papers and on every football site, would like to see us buying in the following order: Thoughts !!!!

Bentley before SWP before Cole before Puncheon
    Jenas before Parker before Bullard
Bassong before most other centre backs we have been linked too
    Chemack before Crouch

I have based my opinions on fees, wages, age and overall value for money.

Bentley needs a rocket up his backside - he MAY still have the ability but it's a fair while since he showed it.

It's either that or they keep paying his wages for doing zip and lose him for nothing when his contract expires. He's clearly surplus so not that far fetched. The real question is, does he have anything more to offer???

I'd have Parker ahead of jenas (has he done anything in the past few seasons??) and any decent fullback in football ahead of another striker (chemakh, crouch etc.)

Bentley at 2.5 million must be a great buy, I am sure that Neil would get the best out of him.
