Can't decide if I'm more frustrated by the clear handball, albeit only clear on the replay due to the sneaky way he did it, or the way Kipre then squared up to the fans after doing it, or the weakness of Frey's penalty or that it was Furlong (an ex-Ranger) who magnificently cleared Cook's header off the line. Got to choose to look at the positive...we got a point against a good West Brom side, but doesn't feel like that this morning. Looking ahead to the Boro game, when, on the basis of last night, I'd like to see Dykes and Willock come back into the side. The combination of Smyth, Chair and Frey just didn't seem to work, and we looked a lot more threatening when Willock and Dykes came on. Discuss below. We now sit three places, but only one point outside the relegation places, in 19th with 39 points. Our opponents on Saturday, Middlesbrough, came from a goal behind to win 3-1 against seventh placed Norwich last night. Their top scorer is Emmanuel Latte Lath with 8 goals, and they sit mid-table ten points from 6th and nine points from 22nd. Just highlights how tight the division is this year. Team news and manager comments/interview to go up when on the official, enjoy if you are heading to HQ for this one, and as always... ...COME ON YOU SUPER HOOPSA!!!
Let’s hope that we can continue with another good home performance, as against WBA, but with a haul of 3 points. It seems that our March fixtures are not as terrifying as we thought two weeks ago.
Cheers Dave. Smyth, Chair a Frey were all still on the pitch last night when Willock and Dykes came on. We looked more threatening because we had loads of attacking players on the pitch.
He'll rotate I guess. Armstrong and Willock in from the start maybe. Does Colback come straight back in?
I'm just glad that Boro played last night as well so they'll be as knackered as us - plus they have a 4 hour journey south. My mate's a Boro season ticket holder and he doesn't rate Latte Lath. You'll remember that he missed 4 clear cut chances against us in the home fixture earlier this season. He's also accepted that they're resigned to mid table - so maybe their motivation won't be as strong as ours. I'm predicting a good win for the boys. C'mon u R'sssssssssssssssss
Yeah, I wasn't clear. I guess what I mean is that Frey is such a big target, it means we can be tempted to play in a very one dimensional way. When the others came on we looked a lot more threatening and less predictable. Just my take having watched it on the computer, so might not be a fair opinion.
One of those players worth mentioning twice in such list, I reckon. I knew Kieron Dyer was a sicknote but was it really just 5 appearances over 2 years? Jeez.
Need another strong game, then we have a weeks recovery ‘til the next game. Frey looked pretty tired by the end, so depends how his fitness is - I imagine it’ll be Dykes with Armstrong on at 62mins. Hayden came off, so hopefully he’ll be fit to start. Field is usually fit as a butchers dog. I can see Willock starting over Smith. I imagine after the WBA game they’ll all want more of the same. Is it a sell out?
Frey put in an immense shift against WBA, didn't he? I've rarely seen a Centre Forward work so hard or cover so much ground. His effort in closing people down was really impressive. I was amazed how fit he seemed given his lack of game time before he joined us. He was like the Duracell bunny. If he had lazed around a bit and conserved his energy, maybe he wouldn't have hit such a poor penalty! But, to your point, he possibly does need a rest after all that effort!
