All a rather depressing read with so many stalwarts not bothering to go to matches due to the dire standard of footie on offer.

The Board and JS need to turn this around otherwise it will impact on ST sales over the summer.

As Warnock pointed out pre match we are a side with too many soft players. Looking at yesterday only Mbengue seemed to have any sort of battling quality about him even if it ended in nothing. Every time we got the ball we were pressured and lost possession easily. Injuries or not the buck has to stop with JS. Throughout the season we have had so many poor performances even when winning and our strategy is so predictable, the attitude of some players is beginning to look questionable and you wonder whether JS is 'losing' the squad...

It’s been a tough set of fixtures and a very depleted squad so it feels a bit harsh to put all the blame on the management team at this stage. I thought we held pretty well up to the first goal. Lady Luck against us for the first two with the ‘handball’ and non-corner decisions. But we were outclassed for sure.

However, the time for pulling back on track is now, starting at Brum and then our third in a week at Leicester (when we are notoriously meek & weak). We need to get back picking up points and getting some pride back. Not the easiest run-in now so definitely feels like a soft underbelly sort of end to the season unless some players come back.

Maybe we can get Derry and Hill out of retirement?
But seriously Warnock really hit the nail on the head.

To say I don't rate Sam Field is an understatement but looking at the usual pathetic involvement of Hayden and Varane yesterday, letting him go out on loan looks like a suicide note for which the manager has to take a share of the responsibility. Also, for someone supposedly good at working with young players his judgement was awful yesterday: bringing on Bennie and Esquardinho to soak up the depression when the game was already lost will do nothing to inspire them. And Kone looked truly shell shocked by the end but was forced to continue. Finally, Stephan has certainly lost the fans if not the dressing room yet. Will he survive to have a summer with the squad I wonder?

So after a lot of reflection.

I thought Kone tried really hard, it is not his fault he was on his own.

The only invention (of the Madsen kind, came from Vale) He deserved that goal.

Mbengue is not the best footballer but he shows desire verve and urgency. If the team play well., he will be a real asset, but his shortcomings are obvious in a bad team, which we are at the moment.

I am not sure I can explain my next point well but I think we have good CDs in Dunne, Edwards, CS. But they are not good collectively at the moment, as they are being chopped and changed so often (trying to get Edwards and CS up to match fitness?). Our best defensive spell this season was when Cook and Dunne and ND and Mbengue were settled.

To stop the rot in the CDs we need a settled pairing and a good CDM in front. Varane is not that player, how many times does he win the ball and then give it right back. Hayden imho is better. Field was the best we had!

The ACM is a mess due to Madsen and Chair being injured. Vale is getting there though, but not yet.

Saito is having an awful run of games. Why not play Smyth and give Saito a rest...when is Poku available and when oh when is Burrell back.

and btw Bennie and Kolli are not an answer either, I would like to see Pearman play

At the risk of repeating myself.......
Also the likes of Ivanovic, Vipotnik etc we would have got for next to nothing if our scouts were as awake as i am in spotting a goal scorer.
available. Add to that Liam Cooper and Brannagan. These players are chip as chips yet Varane could not lace their boots and we spent £4m+ on Ronnie who looks shot to pieces. Likewise Saito.

A lot of, not unreasonable, criticism for Varane and Saito on here, but has everybody forgotten how good they were last season? Everyone loved Saito and there was talk of big money being made on a Varane transfer. With Edwards, too, looking a shadow of the player we had on loan last season, Stephan seems to have some kind of reverse Midas touch with his players.

Good post Beth.
The frustration on Kone is obvious to see.
I would personally play Edwards and Vale as a central midfield with Dunne and Cook in defence. Our left hand side is as weak as piss. Saito is having a mare and RND or sheff utds 4th choice left back just ain't cutting it.

My team for Wednesday

Hamer

Mbengue Dunne Cook ND
Hayden Edwards
Smyth Vale Morgan
Kone
Absolutely no point in playing Kone as a lone striker. If we ask Jimmy Dunne nicely I reckon he could do an emergency job up front in a 2 and with Edwards alongside Cook as CDs. Radical? Maybe, but only as risky of continuing to play a midfielder who can't tackle and can't find a teammate with a 5 yard pass.
