Transport: 192 miles driving up the m1, 4 hours 17 minutes. Train out of Kings Cross, 3 hours 19 minutes - thanks 9's for pointing out the Hammersmith and City line is out this weekend. If you are planning on cycling then get going as it's almost 19 hours and 218 miles. QPR take a break from league action this weekend but still face a Championship side as Leeds United are welcomed to Loftus Road for a FA Cup third round fixture. Rangers have undoubtedly been disappointing during this competition in recent seasons – reaching the fourth round just twice in the last 15 years. Last year the R’s were knocked out by MK Dons, but with things going so well in the league, McClaren will hope his team will have enough to get past the side currently occupying 1st place in the Championship. Our visitors come into this game perhaps somewhat grateful for a change of competition. It’s been an excellent first half of the campaign for Bielsa’s side but they have lost their last two league games and may embrace playing in a different format this weekend. The two teams have, of course, already met this season in the league at Elland Road with the Whites coming out as 2-1 winners in what was an extremely close fixture. This is the first FA Cup tie at Loftus Road but the two teams did meet in this competition back in the 1930s when Rangers were playing at the White City stadium. QPR last played Leeds in the FA Cup fifth round in the 1986/87 season with the Yorkshire outfit advancing with a 3-1 win. They reached the semi-finals but were knocked out by Coventry.
If the League Cup was anything to go by we can write this one off even if Massive play their 2nd string. I'd guess it will be at least 7 or 8 fringe players in our team on the day...
There's some travel disruption on Sunday which may affect some going to the game ... please log in to view this image please log in to view this image
It's a shame really as if this was a league match it would be a guaranteed full house, as it is I doubt we'll top 10,000...
This is the season when we deal with our jinxes, so we'll win this one, but I'll leave it to someone else to say that, as I won't be posting on this thread.
We are in little danger of getting involved in the relegation battle and are safely in mid-table. I will be very disappointed if we don't pick our strongest team and try to go on a cup run (we won't of course).
Go away Woody... I heard on podcast that Steeve wouldn't dare play a weak team for this one after the sh**storm vs Blackpool. However I am really not sure how he cannot do anything else. Obviously Lumley and his "fake nose- injury" cannot play...So Ingrams will get a game (he had to anyhow) Leistners is on 6 bookings and Lynch is gallantly fighting off tinsellitis, surely they will not play So back line of Kakay, Furlong Hall, Bidwell (who seems to go on like clockwork)??? There may be a case to play Scowen and Cousins (more practice) but Manning must play. Pavel had an injury (?achilles at Villa?) and needs a rest too, so BOS will play Eze is due a rest as is Wells (he is our only decent striker, heaven help us if he is injured. So can see Chair playing no10...with Oteh ahead of him (surely Matt Smith cannot play 90 minutes So team Ingrams Kakay, Furlong, Hall, Bidwell Manning, Cousins, Scowen, BOS Chair Oteh/Smith On the Bench Lumley (in a hockey mask) Hammalein, Phillips, Smythe,Shodipo, Eze (just in case) and Oteh/Smith any better ideas?
Play the same team again if they are all fit. Unless Cameron, Angel, or Hemed happen to be ready again. This is the season we win at Nottingham Forest and in the FA Cup.
I would normally like to see a pretty-much first team line-up, but it would be foolish not to give a few a rest after the busy last few weeks, in my opinion. Wells, Freeman, Wszolek and Eze should all be given a break and maybe one or two more. Ingram will certainly replace Lumley. Looks about right, Beth.
What's the problem with playing them? Rest them in the next league game if needed. I'm not suggesting playing anyone who is carrying an injury, but if they're fit we should try to win the game imo.
I wouldn’t do it to rest players. I’d do it to get some minutes into squad players. Let’s see what Oteh, BOS and a couple of others can do. Leeds will surely make changes. It’s a great chance for us.
I think Oteh and especially BOS will get their chances sooner or later due injury / suspensions. Maybe Chair as well. We should put out our best 11 in the Cup, resting players hasn't worked for us for years.
Because we still have an outside chance of getting in the play-offs. Hopefully, with the right balance of selection, we can win both, but if I had to pick one it would be the league game. I'm pretty sure Leeds will put out a weakened side.
Ok. I think our chances of getting in the play offs is quite unlikely so I'd like to not throw a cup game for a change.
McClaren seems to like sticking with his preferred starting line up so it’s matches like this that gives the opportunities for fringe players to impress. If Ingram has a bad game in this I don’t think he’ll ever recover. I wasn’t going to go but £11 for me and the boy made me change my mind.
