The FA Cup - 5th Rnd

    Queens Park Rangers vs Watford

Joel Lynch is a doubt for Queen Park Rangers' FA Cup fifth-round tie with Watford on Friday night.

The defender will need to be checked after missing the midweek defeat at Bristol City with a back problem.

Rangers boss Steve McClaren has a couple of unnamed players carrying knocks, but will have to make do without Angel Rangel and Geoff Cameron. Right-back Rangel has a thigh problem while the versatile Cameron, who can play in defence or midfield, is struggling with an ankle injury.

Sebastian Prodl and Roberto Pereyra could feature for Watford after returning to training.

Defender Prodl is back from a knee problem while midfielder Pereyra has recovered from a hamstring issue.

Javi Gracia made 11 changes in the last two rounds, but may be tempted to keep tweaks to a minimum as his side look to book a quarter-final spot. But Gracia will be unable to call on injured pair Isaac Success and Kiko Femenia.

    Previous Stats.

This will be just the second FA Cup meeting between QPR and Watford, with the Hornets winning the previous encounter 2-1 at Loftus Road in January 1980.

QPR have lost just one of their last five home meetings with Watford in all competitions (W2 D2), going down 1-3 in a Championship match in December 2010.

This will be QPR's first FA Cup fifth round match since 1996-97 (1-2 vs Wimbledon), with the Hoops last making the quarter-final in 1994-95.
Watford have progressed to the quarter-final on three of the last four occasions they've reached this stage of the FA Cup, most recently in the 2015-16 campaign.

Watford have won seven of their last eight FA Cup ties against sides from a lower division, losing only against Millwall in the fourth round in 2016-17.
QPR's Nahki Wells has scored or assisted a goal in each of his last four starts in the FA Cup (3 goals, 1 assist), netting in both of his games for the London side this season.

Referee: Michael Oliver (Northumberland), Premier League’s leading referee who took charge of Millwall’s upset against Everton in the last round.

Assistants: Simon Bennett (Staffordshire) and Daniel Robathan (Bedfordshire)

    Fourth Official: Graham Scott (Oxfordshire)

I really hope we put out our strongest team today (other than putting Gomes in goal). No need to rest players, big gap since our previous game and a gap to the next one and more to play for in this competition. Big game live on TV under the lights.

Sadly I don't think Gracia thinks the same as me on this!

The FA Cup has provided QPR with their only wins of 2019, the club sitting bottom of the Championship form table after a winless run that dates back to Boxing Day. As the new year dawned they were eighth and cautiously eyeing the play-offs; now they are 16th, only a point better off and grateful the bottom three are sufficiently hopeless that the Hoops are only three points closer to the trapdoor than in December. Still, they are in the FA Cup in mid-February, which is a novel sensation. QPR’s Cup record is abysmal; they have already won as many ties this season as in the last 17 put together. The last time they went past the fifth round it was 1995, they were on their way to an eighth-place finish in the top flight, Les Ferdinand was their star striker and even then they needed a stoppage-time Clive Wilson penalty to get past Millwall. Watford are likely to field a much-changed line-up again, but even so there seems little cause, either from form or long-term history, for genuine optimism.

I wouldn't mind a few changes for this but not too many!

Would like to see Gray back up front with Deeney and put Delofeu & Peneranda on the wings. Give Capoue a rest and play Chalobah in midfield with Doucoure.

Does this count towards 1 of Holebas' games? Seen differing reports. Either way I'd rather Massina play to get him up to speed for the league game/s, but otherwise keep the defence as is.

Good idea to make sure we have 5 players who could score penalties...

Guess the likes of Kabasele and Chalobah will come in so their chance to impress really.

Hopefully Gomes will be like Foster in goal if called upon.

Good to see Gray get a chance but not sure about resting Doucoure and first choice central defence but likely I guess..

I thought Holebas was suspended after receiving his 10th caution of the season last week.

I don't think it applies to FA cup games.

Let's hope it doesn't come to it, but there are no replays now. If still level after extra time it is down to penalties.
