I assume that was a Southern League match, non-league used to get some amazing attendances in those days...
Why is that not credited as our highest ever attendance? It almost doubles that of the official 35,353 v Leeds.
The link to the season review contradicts the newspaper report: Rangers became the Southern League Division 1 Champions 1911-12 with 21 wins, 11 draws & 6 defeats. For 59 goals & 35 goals against. Top goal scorers were Dan Mckie & Eddie Revill both with 16 goals and finishing with 53 points.Plymouth finished in second place with 52 points. The largest home gate of the season was 26,000 against Southampton played at the White City ending 1-1. Reports of a 62,000 attendance are probably exagerated
I have been told that the 62,000 reported could be wrong, but I have a second newspaper report also stating 62,000 attended. I will have to investigate further when I have some time.
I guess it could have been like that first Wembley final when they couldn't accurately say how many were there.
Seems more likely it was a simple typo, they put 62 instead of 26. Was it the grauniad that reported it?
