We never seem to have much cross-board discussion anymore- so in preparation for the crunch match on December 21st, I thought I'd invite our fellow Leicester Not606ers to discuss the relative merits of both squads. Leicester Schmeichel DeLaet Moore Morgan Konchesky Knockaert Drinkwater King Dyer Vardy Nugent QPR Green BAE Onouha Dunne Simpson Phillips Barton Kranjcar Carroll Hoillet Austin ___________________________________________________________________________________ How many of that rabble would make it into our mighty West London phalanx? Objectively, not many. I know the foxes rate Konchesky highly, but I'd take our entire back 5 over theirs. Simpson has been an absolute rock this season, and Green is better than Schmeichel, who's dropped a few clangers lately apparently. Hoillet and Phillips will grow into the best wingers in the league, and our central midfield is fairly unrivalled at this level. I suppose Austin/Nugent is a bit of a toss up at the moment, but Charlie missed most of preseason with us, so I feel he'll grow into the season as it progresses- and finish on a higher goals tally. We've also got more options from the bench, having the like of Henry/Jenas to protect a lead, and Andy Johnson to switch to 442. Thoughts? * My faux confidence is for the sake of sparking debate only
Our formation is one we use often away. 4-3-3/4-2-3-1 In that formation our strongest side is (IMO); Schmeichel De Laet Moore Morgan Konchesky James Drinkwater King Knockaert Wood Dyer You could pick any of our 3 strikers and they'll be equally effective in terms of goals, but as a lone striker Wood is the better of the bunch as he's got a good touch and can hold the ball up. He's also an outstanding finisher, you don't want to be giving him chances. IMO we'll play; Schmeichel Moore Morgan Miquel Konckesky Knockaert Drinkwater King Dyer Wood/Nugent/Vardy Knockaert will run rings around your left back so you'd have to double up on him, potentially leaving space for the very influential Drinkwater to run the show.
AKCJ no wonder you are doing well if you can get away with 12 players on the pitch!!!!!!!! Seriously it would be good if you come with the mind set to attack as too many sides have come to LR and set up with everyone behind the ball which doesn't make for great entertainment..... Looks like you have a tough week of games with Burnley, City and then us.....hope your lads are knackered when we play you......
Wood/Nugent/Vardy obviously meaning two of the three.
AKCJ Yep I did actually get it.......whats your preferred option out of the 3?
Laugh all you like - BAE is an experienced PL player, and was a regular starter in the Tottenham team that finished 4th. He's played against the likes of Bale and Ronaldo, and it will take something serious to better him. He's not been tested in the slightest at this level, he has more than enough pace, power, and technical ability. If your guy is going to 'run rings around him' I'll be very very surprised. Most Tottenham fans can't for the life of them understand why he's out on loan!
He's a bit lazy though, and can be caught out by winger/fullback combos with a high work rate? The tracking back sometimes leaves something to be desired. But I agree in general he's been exceptional! On the Foxes board they said Nugent&King's pace would give Hill&Dunne a torrid time. Hopefully Onouha's fit by then
I would take every QPR outfield player but would have their goalie. Obviously that would change if zamora, SWP etc were fit.
I really couldn't say. They each offer something different. Wood is a goalscorer, Vardy is a workhorse and Nugent is an all rounder (can't finish to save his life though). I'd have two of the three but not all 3 together.
