Saturday 3pm Interesting to see how Shota lines up for this one. They keep the ball well like Fulham. Sit back jacket them playing front of us and catch them in the break. We need potter up top for that. I’d like to see two up top but there’s as much chance of that as us lot getting on…. city to snatch a late winner 1-0
Located on the Devil's Highway, an old Roman road from London to Silchester, "Sheppard's Bush Green" was first recorded as a place name in 1635. The name Shepherd's Bush is thought to have originated from the use of the common land here as a resting point for shepherds on their way to Smithfield Market in the City of London. Evidence of human habitation can be traced back to the Iron Age. Shepherd's Bush enters the written record in the year 704 when it was bought by Waldhere, Bishop of London as a part of the "Fulanham" estate, but over the years, all the surrounding boroughs wanted no part of the small bit that is 'the green'. Steptoe & Son's junkyard had a fictional address – 24 Oil Drum Lane, Shepherds Bush. White City Stadium was built to host the Olympic Games of 1908 after the scheduled hosts Italy pulled out. It was constructed on land immediately adjacent to the Exhibition, but was a separate enterprise. Its main legacy is the modern Marathon distance, from Windsor Castle to Shepherd's Bush and around the track to the Royal Box - 26 miles 385 yards. The Free and Independent Republic of Frestonia was declared in 1977 by squatters who had already been living for several years in buildings scheduled for demolition. Threatened with eviction by the Greater London Council, they applied to join the United Nations and issued their own stamps. Actor David Rappaport was their Foreign Minister, and playwright Heathcote Williams was their Ambassador to the United Kingdom. Wormwood Scrubs first entered the public record as Wormeholt in 1189, the year that Richard the Lionheart became King of England. Originally forest, by the beginning of the 19th century it was known as Wormholt Scrubs (or Common), and most of the trees had been cleared. In 1812 the government leased the land (and later bought it) for military exercises. Wormwood Scrubs was leased by the government in 1812 in order to exercise cavalry horses - at the time it was feared that Napoleon Bonaparte might invade. The War Office bought the land in 1878, and the next year Parliament passed the Wormwood Scrubs Act, allowing the military to use it for training when necessary, but to otherwise leave it for "the perpetual use by the inhabitants of the metropolis for exercise and recreation". Under the act the military were forbidden from building any "permanent erections" other than rifle butts, and the land was to be managed by the Metropolitan Board of Works (subject to War Office approval). These days the relevant authorities are the Ministry of Defence and Hammersmith & Fulham council - the military can order the public off the land if they need to, but it cannot be sold off unless it "ceases to be used by the citizens of London". Use it or lose it. Wood Lane, BBC Television Centre opened in 1960 on the site of the old White City Exhibition. Many of the nation's favourite shows were made at or broadcast from "the concrete doughnut", including Monty Python's Flying Circus, Fawlty Towers, Blackadder, Z-Cars, Blue Peter, Jackanory, Porridge, the Morecambe and Wise show and countless others. An early - and very famous - film featuring Shepherd's Bush is The Blue Lamp (1950), which has a dramatic car chase finale after a young Dirk Bogarde shoots Dixon of Dock Green in the Harrow Road. Some scenes from Quadrophenia were shot in the area in 1979, including Shepherd's Bush Market, Goldhawk Road, Wells Road, Uxbridge Road, Wormholt Estate, Latimer Road, the Bramley Arms and the Wormholt Estate. How thick and lonely must they be?
No win in 4 for either of us, would take another point in the road personally but would really like to see us end this winless run and show abit more of this attractive style Shota apparently likes
Was at that game. Not many of us there as you can tell by the lack of noise when we scored. Season after Terry Neill was sent off for knocking one of their players over the barrier. A whole minibus with 16 on there and a couple of Marines who had just got back from the Caribbean and were passing round bottles of rum they had brought in. Ramshackle ground then but enjoyable place to visit for an away trip. Always booked the coach to leave at midnight for any London games and had a good night out before meeting up near Houses Of Parliament.
I think you will likely have to wait until next season for that (or at least until we play those at the bottom end of the division this season MAYBE). Like you, I would absolutely take another hard earned, potentially valuable 'point on the road', or who knows, even to nick 3 like we could have done on Tuesday night. Reality ....
It certainly will be interesting to see how we line up for this one. I guess the right-back position is the biggest conundrum, will he play Elder again or bring either Bernard or Jones in one the right or play 3 at the back? I think he will persevere with Forss, maybe rest Smallwood and bring Docherty alongside Slater or maybe put Jones in as the sitting midfielder? I would take a draw now, but hopefully, we can perform and get the 3 points as they appear to be wobbling a bit.
I think that’ll be the case too. Bit like Arsenal at first with Arteta didn’t play expansive football at all because he focused on building the defensive foundations he wanted from the entire squad. Adding midfielders who can play this role but also dictate a game is key in summer because as much as Smallwood is good for us currently he won’t take us further up the league.
Didn't know where to put this, but so everyone had a chance to listen to it, I put it here. Gary Hobson interview, really great listen, worth an hour of your time.
There's also zero reason to drop either Smallwood or Slater. Let's ease Alfie back in as slowly as possible. I'd go Bernard at RB but Shota doesn't seem to fancy him, he's benched him almost instantly. It'll be another grafting performance, it'd be great to see us a bit better on the ball but even against the top sides we are creating good chances, we just aren't taking them. Another point ahead of the next 2 would be great
Bernard was shaky for a while before he was dropped, Jones is a lot more composed which I think he prefers. Probably why he can play in midfield too. I would potentially bring Jones in but I think he can do the holding role alone as he almost becomes a 3rd centre back allowing the full backs to get higher. Wouldn't change anything though.
Really looking forward to this,as its my first visit to qpr,im confident we can get a result there,as we looked pretty good against Fulham and also had the best clear cut chances against the pigs....looking very good at the back,we just need that little bit of spark up front and we'll be ok...c'mon boys you can do these dramas 2-0 city
I think all 3 can play the holding role alone absolutely fine. I think it's as much down to Doch being sub par on the ball and not playing well of late. I think ideally he'd like to play a deep ball player alongside a holder. I'm sure that was the thinking behind Walsh but he had a nightmare debut. Hudd is an option as well against the lower sides. I wouldn't be delighted to see us playing with 2 holding mids against Barnsley but if he does it I can understand it. Both that and the Posh game are more mustn't lose rather than must win.
