MATCH PREVIEW: QPR V CARLISLE UNITED
AFTER back-to-back wins in the Championship, Rangers return to Capital One Cup action tonight.

League Two side Carlisle United – managed by former R’s assistant Keith Curle – are the visitors to Loftus Road for the second round tie.

The Cumbrian's advanced to this stage courtesy of a 3-1 victory over Chesterfield – after extra-time – in round one.

The R’s, meanwhile, progressed thanks to a 3-0 win against Yeovil Town.

Both sides are likely to make changes for the clash in W12, with goalkeeper Alex Smithies in line to feature following his move from Huddersfield Town last week.

Head Coach, Chris Ramsey, has also confirmed left-back Cole Kpekawa will start the game, after he impressed in the R’s victory at Huish Park a fortnight ago.

    Carlisle Player To Watch

With an impressive 87 goals in 300 League games in his 15-year career, Jabo Ibehre knows how to find the net, especially in the League Cup, where he has eight in ten appearances.

The Islington-born man is also in scintillating form, scoring seven already this season, including a hat-trick in the 4-4 draw with Cambridge United.

The 6’2 striker’s departure from Colchester came as a shock to many, after winning their ‘Player of the Year’ in 2013 as they survived the drop from League One.

But after two unsuccessful loan spells, the former England Youth International seems to have ignited his career once more from Brunton Park.

    PRE-MATCH TALK

R’s Head Coach, Chris Ramsey: “We'll use the squad for this one and rotate where we can.

“It's important we try and keep players fresh for the Huddersfield game on Saturday – some of the lads have played a lot of games in a relatively short space of time.

“But it's a game we want to win, so those lads who haven't featured as regularly as they'd have liked so far, will be keen to stake a claim with a positive performance.”

Cumbrians midfielder, Gary Dicker: “There won’t be one person in that dressing room who won’t want to play on Tuesday night. That’s the same whether it’s a cup game or a league game. We all want to play football.

“It’s a good one for people who haven’t played in big grounds and with atmospheres like that before. Everyone wants to play against better players so you can gauge where you are. It’s a game we want to win and, whatever happens, it’s the type of experience you can only learn from.”

    Keith Curle

Keith Curle ahead of the QPR Capital One Cup game
United boss Keith Curle spoke to us about his return to Loftus Road ahead of tonight’s Capital One Cup second round game against QPR.

“We’re not going down there just to make numbers up,” he insisted. “We go with a game plan which we think will cause them problems. The players have the instruction to go out and express themselves in every game they play.

“I went to watch QPR at Wolves last Wednesday and I’m pleased they got the win. I wasn’t too impressed with them in the first half but they showed they’re a good side with the way they picked things up.

“They’ll be full of confidence but ultimately their goal is to get promoted to the Premier League. That could mean they take one eye off the cup game – we won’t know that until we get to the night.

“It’s always a great atmosphere and great environment down there. I lived down there for just over two years and it will provide us with a proper Tuesday night arena for a good game of football.”

“It’s a quality football club and I have fantastic memories from working there,” he explained. “Playing wise the personnel have changed and I think there’s only Clint Hill and Ale Faurlin who were there when I was. They’ve been on a rollercoaster of a journey, with some real highs and lows, but it’s a football club which is very dear to me.

“We went up as Champions when Neil [Warnock] and I were able to halt the slide they’d been on. I think that will always be a very fond memory for me. They were in a precarious position when we took over and we found a blend of players that worked. We created a winning mentality and it was a good place to be.”

“It’s a game we want to win and we’ll pick the team to try to do that for us,” he concluded. “They have a really good squad, so it won’t be easy, but we won’t be rolling over.

“I have the desire in me that I always want to win the next match. I think we’ll have a good showing of fans, particularly with the support we get from the London Branch, so we’ll want to put on as good a display as possible for them.”

Be surprised if we risked Chery, also think Hill and maybe Furlong will be involved at the back.

Total team change, see how these fringe players perform, bench looks pretty strong.
4-1 victory and a nice home draw in round three.

Very much a second-string eleven, if Carlisle play a settled team it will be a tough night...

A shame Gladwin appears to be injured. Mackie's recovery is taking a while too!

Like pretty much all of us I really do hope we have a go tonight and try our best to go on a cup run. Even tho it's still early days in the league we are all happy with things at present, a good old cup run would be the icing on the cake.

Let QPR be a good teabag for a change and stay in the cup.

Now come on U R's, make us proud!

I thought Furlong was injured. That's why I didn't include him.
