Is it time to make a statement and install McCarthy as the number 1? As good as Greeno was for us last year I think it's time to look towards the future, and this would surely be his last season between the sticks with us. It's a shame that the decision wasn't somewhat taken out of our hands with the Chelsea rumour as i'd imagine he's on a good whack so having that just sitting on the bench doesn't make great business sense I guess. http://www.standard.co.uk/sport/foo...-as-rob-green-looks-set-to-stay-10371153.html Thoughts?
was so excited when he signed His few matches last season were mistake prone...is that because he is not no1 or is it because we have a pup...only CR will know that. Will leave it to the man we pay to make those decisions
This shouldn't even be a discussion. McCarthy HAS to be number 1 next season. As good as a servant Green was, he's still served 2 relegation's for us. Time to be rid of him now.
Greeno kept McCarthy out of goal on performance last season. Green was one of our better players. When McCarthy did get a game, he didn't look that convincing. That is disappointing. I'm happy if Green stays - I don't want McCarthy chosen over him just because he's younger - he has to be better. If McCarthy goes, then obviously we have to get in another young keeper as Green's understudy and, if all goes well, replacement.
I'd like McCarthy to be given a good run. Never been so impressed by Green and looking forward McCarthy is surely the one to give the first chance too.
Happy for either/both to go. Green is a decent shot stopper 90% of the time, but his distribution is non League as well as being slow. McCarthy has been cack the few times I've seen him, obviously isn't as good as Green or he would have played more last season.
I had Green as one of my three candidates for Player of the Year at the end of last season. He made some fantastic saves for us, marred only by his poor kicking which seemed to become worse as the season went on. Having rated him so highly overall, I couldn't imagine passing him over in the following season for someone (McCarthy) who didn't particularly impress during his limited appearances. Nevertheless, McCarthy is a real prospect and I would hate to lose him. Someone - Les or Chris - has a delicate balancing act to perform in order to keep both our best goalkeeper (Green) for 2015/16 and our young prospect (McCarthy) for 2016 onwards.
Good post. We tend to remember mistakes made by goalies more than their amazing saves. I am pretty certain there have been more of the latter but it is hard to forget the Chelsea game! Isla was responsible too, of course, for being dozy. Green or McCarthy? Needs more wisdom and footballing knowledge (and a good dose of ITK) than I have.
