QPR top Championship wage bill Championship clubs collectively paid out £530m in wages in their latest financial accounts filed at Companies House, Insider research has revealed. The figure is just £116m less than the total combined turnover. Queens Park Rangers topped the table after paying out more than £66m to players during the year. The accounts for the club cover the season when they achieved promotion back to the Premier League through the playoffs after defeating Derby County at Wembley. Fulham, Cardiff City and Hull City also feature at the top end of the table, although all three were Premier League clubs during the season under review. please log in to view this image The wage data forms part of Insider's look at the financial state of the Championship. Earlier this week, it was revealed that clubs have amassed more than £1.1bn worth of debt, while combined losses total in excess of £200m.
Presumably we were a Prem club for most or all of this period and it isn't very relevant to the wage bill today. That Fulham number looks pretty nuts though. Is Scott Parker still there?
For all our glutinous spending, amazing management by Brentford. Just shows what can be done, and they've made some very good money from players too. All credit to them. Now... we need to get out there and find a striker to replace Charlie when he leaves.. where's the wallet Tony???
Today's Championship teams in a list with figures from just over two years ago - not much relevance. We were massive overspenders and at that point, for example, we'd have been spending over £6 million a year just on Cesar and Green as top two goalies. If it was done now, it would read much differently. By the reports of clauses used, it's possibly only Green, Hoillett and maybe Traore, on old contracts, that don't have them. I'd be happy if we got shot of those three and reckon we could have almost halved that £66 million if done now.
As this would be for the year ending 31/5/14 this wouldn't have required much research! After all, we have been in FFP negoiation for a little while regarding those accounts! It would be surprising if we were the highest payers this season.
