QPR to battle Prem big guns for teen starlet

Published 12:39 15/11/11 By James Nursey

QPR face missing out on talented teenager Josiah Chukwudi despite spotting him playing Sunday League football.

Central midfielder Chukwudi, 15, has been for a successful trial at the Loftus Road club.

But Chukwudi has not yet signed terms and no compensation would be due if suitors at Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool and Spurs now firm up their interest.

Four-way fight for Liverpool and Chelsea target - reports

Skysports.com understands a host of Barclays Premier League clubs are battling it out for teenage sensation Josiah Chukwudi, with Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham and Liverpool believed to be leading the race for his signature.

The 15-year-old central midfielder was spotted playing Sunday League football, and recently underwent a trial with Queens Park Rangers, but having attracted interest from a number of the country's biggest clubs, Chukwudi will now consider alternative options.

Since his return to Anfield in January, Reds boss Kenny Dalglish has put an emphasis on the development of future talent, as Liverpool youngsters are nurtured with a view to promoting them through the club's academy and into the first-team.

With that in mind, the club have spent time running the rule over a number of the country's brightest upcoming stars, with Liverpool director of football Damien Comolli spearheading these scouting trips.

The emergence of Chukwudi is sure to interest the Reds, but they will face strong competition from Chelsea - who have deployed a similar strategy surrounding youth development at Stamford Bridge since the arrival of Blues boss Andre Villas-Boas.

As Chukwudi is without a full-time club at present, there would be no compensation to be paid by either Liverpool, Chelsea or any of his other Barclays Premier League suitors if a move for the starlet materialises.

Hopefully our scouts are better judges of player than Northolt, he wouldn't know a good player if he bit him on the bum!
