Here's a comprehensive blog on QPR from a financier who lives in Switzerland. I don't know if he's a QPR fan or not but It covers quite a lot with an in depth analysis about the club and its finances.

Rich, that is a loooonnnggggg and very depressing article.
Particularly in the light of what Leicester have done, it is just desperately depressing to think what we might (or even should) have done with all those wasted resources.

None of that can be true because, if it was, you'd be forgiven for thinking Fernandes & Co. were a bag of naive, useless ****s.

I know mate. My apologies, I did think twice before posting but I was hoping rather foolishly that someone better qualified than I could pull it apart. Sadly not it would seem.

I'll leave it to the accountants on here to say if that is an accurate picture but if it is it's a huge reinforcement of all the fears about the finances of this club, and it very much looks like our inability to generate much income from either match day receipts, commercial activity or player sales coupled with the massive overspending on player acquisitions and wages has been a toxic mix. Our only serious income was (in the PL) from TV and now from parachute payments (2 years to go, declining steeply, we had half of it this season).

    So.........
    - even if the owners were prepared to keep splashing out the economics of the club would prevent it because we would end up in permanent FFP ****. And it would be a stupid waste of money, not that that seemed to matter until a few months ago.
    - the club has a tiny income base, and the only options to increase it are promotion to the PL (without spending more than we make on new players and paying them low wages); massively increasing ticket prices (and even this won't make much difference); selling players for a lot of money (err, who?); or racking up new debt and risk being hit by FFP (been there, done that)
    - there has been no capital investment in the last 5 years.

Once the parachute payments are gone even more belt tightening will be needed. It's going to get worse on the pitch not better, unless we have absolutely brilliant management, recruitment and youth development. Or we get very lucky.

Thanks for that Stan, that's a great analysis, however damning it comes across. There is one slither of good news though. Re your last sentence, I've heard on good authority that the academy is coming along leaps and bounds at an exponential rate. It may be as soon as three years when we see this come to fruition. The person who is within the club reckons that we will have an excellent academy very soon and it will be up there with the best of them. I'll have to try and get the person who told me to come on here and verify it. The club are going all out to try and achieve this.

Take a look at the staff and personnel in the academy that the club have on board now ... http://www.qpr.co.uk/club/

Holy ****. That is some list of academy staff. The pressure is on now to produce some results.

Jesus, that's a long list. Fingers crossed they can deliver, I would like nothing better than to see some home grown Rs in the team.

I was just trying to manage expectations Nines, including my own. Every time I see a post along the lines of 'we need two new proven CBs, a right back and at least one striker' I wince, we will only be getting untried and risky new players in, they are all we can afford. And even then only if we can offload the likes of Caulker, Fer, Phillips, Sandro. I'd take anything offered for them, and if nothing is offered I'd give them away. If JFH can get us anywhere near the play offs next season it will be an outstanding job. Avoiding League One should be the first target.

Is anyone else having problems with the search function on the site - all I get is 'error, try again later' been like it for days.

I was trying to find a thread posted years ago, I think by Roller or Brix, asking for peoples expectations for the years ahead. I vaguely remember it was in the heady early days of the Tone Era, and I'm pretty sure by next season I was hoping to be sitting, comfortably, in a new stadium watching a team likely to finish top ten in the PL and challenging in the cups and containing 3 home grown players. Soul destroying. All I want before I am too decrepit to care is a couple of European away nights.

if we are going to invest anywhere it has to be youth. These people will be cheap compared the the millions we will be paying consultancies and property development firms for a stadium and flats project that isn't going to happen.

Yes I agree with all of that and I also wince when we have to have such a large turnover of players. JFH & LF are trying to minimize that as was mentioned at the fans forum back in March. They want to get us into a position where we only need to bring in two or a maximum of three players a season. But as you and I have said many times before patience is required. It won't happen overnight.

I've just thought of a really good comparison to use. How about 'Rome wasn't built in a day?'

The site's been knackered for weeks, nothing is working. No search functions, no IP checks and it's a nightmare if I need to check out a poster's history. The site owner has gone missing so I haven't a clue when he'll be back with his screwdriver to fix it.

Yep. But it lasted a ****ing long time once they got it going. Unfortunately for me I strongly suspect I won't be around to see QPR dominate Europe for 20 years. Bound to happen though, the day after I peg it.

I don't think there's a QPR fan alive that will see it Stan. Leicester have stolen all the **** club's luck for one hundred years!!! <laugh>
