QPR striker reveals Warnock home truths Nov 7 2011 By Paul Warburton JAY Bothroyd reckons a face-to-face with Neil Warnock paved the way for his rebirth at QPR. The striker returned to score a second in consecutive games against high-fliers Manchester City on Saturday â and was even considering a claim on a third after his diving header got deflected in via the back of Heidar Helguson. But three weeks ago, the manager told the England capped player his attitude was lacking, and dropped him for Helguson. Since when Bothroyd (pic) knuckled down to force his way back into the team with devastating effects. âIt had been a bit difficult,â said Bothroyd. âFor the last three years I was in a 4-4-2 at Cardiff. But coming here I was asked to play a different system â and it took a while to gel. âBut Neil is a great man manager, and he pulled me to say he was leaving me out. âBut I got on with it, did extra sessions with coaches; was the last man to leave and the first man in â and itâs paid off.â With Helguson alongside, Bothroyd reckons Rangers can chase the crock of gold that is 40 points and Premiership saftey when they face Stoke away on Saturday week. âHeidar being up there has complimented my style,â he said. âAnd we gave Manchester City their hardest game all season, according to their coaches. âMaybe we could have got more, especially at Spurs when we should have tightened up. But we said if we can get three points out these three games that would be great. Now the main thing is to get to 40 points as soon as possible.â iReader http://www.ealinggazette.co.uk/spor...-reveals-warnock-home-truths-82029-29734584/?
At the end of the day it's points not plaudits - no matter how nice - that we need to feather our nest.
NW must have been in a preoccupied state leading up to the fantastic performance against City. Third para of his introduction in the match program reads: "[Man City] are the team, that in my opinion, everyone is going to have to finish above to win the Premier League this season." Er, Neil, Man City aren't the only team you have to finish above to win the Prem. Bet he got his wife to draft it for him (or am I being sexist?)
QPR star reveals the reason behind his return to form - QPR - London 24 Queens Park Rangers' Jay Bothroyd celebrates scoring the opening goal against Manchester City QPR star reveals the reason behind his return to form by Ian Cooper Monday, November 7, 2011 10:33 AM Two goals in two games have made Jay Bothroyd much happier at Loftus Road Jay Bothroyd believes that Neil Warnock’s decision to pair him with Heidar Helguson up front has played a crucial part in his return to form for QPR. England striker Bothroyd failed to score in his first eight games for the Rs, and was subsequently dropped by Warnock for the matches against Blackburn Rovers and Chelsea. But with Warnock switching from a 4-2-3-1 formation to two up front Bothroyd has suddenly found his scoring boots, netting against Tottenham last weekend, while he and Helguson were both on target in the 3-2 defeat to league leaders Manchester City on Saturday. “Heidar is one of those players who wants to play on the shoulders of defenders, he likes the physical confrontation and he’ll stay high up the pitch,” said Bothroyd. “I’m a bit of a different player, I like to come inside and get involved in the game, drift wide, take players on and hopefully score goals. “With him up there he’s complementing my style, giving me the freedom to come deep when I want to and wide when I want to. The manager’s told me to go and express myself, that’s what I’ve been doing the last couple of games, and I’ve really enjoyed it. “When you play that disciplined role up front, staying within the width of the six yard box, it’s difficult because you’re not involved in long periods of the game. “I’m a player who always wants to be involved in the game, I want things to come through me, be a catalyst and contribute. With Heidar up there and Shaun Wright-Phillips and Jamie Mackie wide it gives me a bit more freedom.” Bothroyd insisted he was unaffected by his manager’s decision to leave him out, and said the brief spell on the sidelines only increased his desire to prove the doubters wrong. “The manager said to me even before I got left out that the games I started in I did well but didn’t get the goal, so he said he was going to leave me out,” added Bothroyd. “I think that was great management to be honest. He’s a good man manager, I don’t think there’s many managers out there now who would pull you over and tell you they’re going to leave you out for a few games. All you can do as a professional is go back in the next day and work even harder to get yourself back in the team. “I’ve been doing extra sessions with the coaches, keeping myself fit, coming in early and being the last person to leave, and obviously it’s paid off so far.” Follow me on Twitter @QPRTimes iReader http://www.london24.com/sport/champ...he_reason_behind_his_return_to_form_1_1119005
True. BUT the plaudits will pursuade Tony, Amit and Lakshmi that this is a team worth investing in - not that Tony seems to need much pursuasion. This is worth a read from the official page if you want to feel all warm and fuzzy! http://www.qpr.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10373~2508723,00.html
Yo, good point that North - good publicity like that helps. There could have been focus on 0 points from 2 games, but that wouldn't! Obviously, the games at Stoke, Norwich and home to W. Brom are big for us - we need points again to keep above the bottom few, before Liverpool and Man U.
It's great RTID; can't imagine what state we'd be in now if the takeover didn't happen when it did. Would have been better earlier, but it's brilliant knowing that they can and will fund new players as well as planning the non playing side of things.
So true, twins. Is it me, or is quite rare for managers to talk openly about the fact that they have money to spend in a transfer window? On the one hand, it may drive prices up. On the other, it seems to be sending a clear message that we are a serious buying club with serious intentions in the PL. Happy days!
I would like to think a few deals have already been sorted and agreed so come Jan they can get cracking straight away ... My boss is Parrish from Palace at the moment he said that most secret deals are done and thinks we will get defoe and bassong maybe just his views but interesting
I said before that Jay would come good, mind you I said the same about Rod Hulse, which just shows that I know feck all about football.
All credit to both Warnock for his good man-management and Both for taking it on the chin and upping his game...
Glad this has happened. Something had to with Betty, at times earlier in the season, he made Adel look industrious in comparison!!
