QPR striker Jay Bothroyd eyes goal glut By Jacob Murtagh Oct 31 2011 Add a comment Recommend inShare JAY Bothroyd has promised there's more to come after finally breaking his QPR duck in Sunday's defeat at Spurs. The former Cardiff frontman bagged his first goal in blue and white hoops since his summer switch to Loftus Road in the 3-1 reverse at White Hart Lane. And the 29-year-old hopes his effort can trigger a goal glut. He said: âEvery forward wants to score, but sometimes they go through a dry spell, it happens sometimes. âI've come out of the Championship into the Premier League and am playing in a different formation, it's difficult. âYou only have to look at Jermain Defoe last year. He's been one of the best forwards in the country over the years and he only managed a few Premier League goals. âI wasn't letting it get me down too much. I feel I've played well. Some players find adapting to the Premier League and a new system difficult. I'm learning every day and doing extra training to be the best I can be. âHopefully I can hit a bit of a purple patch now. If I can keep on scoring and do well for the team I'll be delighted with that.â Rangers looked to be on the end of a hiding when Spurs raced into a 2-0 lead just after the half-hour mark. But Bothroyd's header halved the deficit midway through the second-half, only for Gareth Bale to wrap up victory shortly after. âIf we had kept it tighter after we scored then maybe they might have got a bit shaky towards the end,â Bothroyd added. âBut they're a great side and they showed their qualities. âWe've come a long way since the Fulham defeat - that was a wake-up call for us. We came out in the second-half and showed a really good attitude and plugged away right until the end.â Read More http://www.fulhamchronicle.co.uk/lo...=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter#ixzz1cM0fD4gb
I liked his reaction to scoring. The personal relief must have been enormous, but no celebration, get the ball and on with the game as we were behind. And he showed a couple of genuine QPR number 10 touches. Let's not get carried away though.....
Good for him. He looked very lively and focused yesterday. Agree he needs to be playing off another striker. He is quite unorthodox and difficult to read sometimes. Hopefully he will now score regularly.
I hope the title of this thread wasn't Jay subtly taking the mick out of Paddy Kenny. Did anyone see in the Chelsea match when Frank Lampard blazed a shot over the bar and everyone was chanting 'You Fat B*stard!' Paddy Kenny sarcastically turned round to the crowd and gestured 'What? Me?!?!' before we all started singing 'One Paddy Kenny'. Always up for a laugh, top quality bloke. Bit off topic there, good on Jay, hope he bags a few more!!!
If he keeps playing like he did at Spurs, I might have to stop calling him Betty. This was the guy I was hoping to see at the start of the season. And Mackie's looking better with each game.
I think now that Adel has gone to ****, we should play Betty off HH in a 4-4-1-1 and give him a run in the side again!
Glad to him get his first goal, Adel could learn something off Jay too about having the right attitude.
He's given warnock something to think about thats for sure. I think its time to play with 2 up front, we desperately need more of a goal threat.
One swallow doesn't spell summertime. Nice touch play. Heads, holds and distributes quite well. Bit of a teddy bear tho'. Needs to add some killer instinct into his game, something that actually worries defenders into making mistakes.
