QPR striker Austin tops list of Premier League's most wasteful forwards John Verrall Email 0 please log in to view this image please log in to view this image John Verrall 16 hours ago "> View image | gettyimages.com Queens Park Rangers striker Charlie Austin has missed more clear-cut chances than any other striker in the Premier League this season. Austin has been guilty of spurning 15 gilt-edged opportunities this campaign, with is two more than Southampton front man Graziano Pelle, who is next placed in the list. Team Big Chance Missed Appearances Mins Played Charlie Austin QPR . 15 27 2349 Graziano Pellè Southampton . 13 30 2569 Sergio Agüero Man City . 12 25 1828 Romelu Lukaku Everton. 10 30 2399 Mame Biram Diouf Stoke . 9 26 1832 It is a surprising stat, considering just how impressive Austin has been this campaign, which has been his first in the top tier. Austin has netted 15 Premier League goals for the R's this term, which ranks him amongst the top scoring strikers in the division. It could have been an even higher total had he been more clinical in front of goal, though, and the 25-year-old will be hoping to be more ruthless as the season progresses. QPR[/a] rely on Austin for goals and his form will be vital if Chris Ramsey's men are to avoid the drop. SEE ALSO: Revealed: QPR's best defender in the league this season It should be noted that the reason that Austin features so highly in this list is largely because he is the focal point of QPR's attack, and therefore receives the bulk of their chances, but he will still be wanting to take them more regularly. At the moment the R's are four points away from safety and they need to start collecting points quickly, meaning they can ill-afford to miss any more presentable opportunities that they create
Harsh reading about the man without whom we would be rock bottom but this might explain why he did not get the England call up.
Bang goes the theory that the others don't create enough chances for him. Although a lot of his 'chances' are efforts from way outside the area as he tends to shoot at the first opportunnity rather than take the man in front of him on.
Third on the list Aguero!!! Not paying too much attention to this, for me it means these players are manging to get shots off when others wouldn't. Yes sometimes it doesn't work out and I would be talking out of my rear end if I hadn't questioned the odd time this season using the most creative use of language when Charlie had taken on a shot, missed, when I though there might have been other options on, but I have also on a number of occassions been screaming out his name in a manor usually only reserved for the wife when he has scored some cracking goals.
Clearly something doesn't quite add up here Striker playing for 2nd bottom team and league's 4th top scorer and he's managed that impressive feat by being amongst the most wasteful forwards... hmmm At this while keeping company like Aguero. Considering his scoring record maybe this should have a positive spin because he must have excellent movement to carve out all these sitters in a poor side Did you know that 60% of all statistics are false and misleading
He has been great for us and surprised me but I have always said he misses more than he gets and stand by that We have been in most of the games we have played in But he is wasteful and the chances have been there I think it's great that he takes no time in shooting but look at others they don't miss or remain composed a lot better You cannot fault his work rate and desire he is top class but if you asked him I bet he is haunted All we can do is get behind him as he is doing his best and I believe he will only get better and he will keep us up
How does the saying go.... there's lies, damm lies and then there's statistics. I've never trusted stats on there own.
No, he has won us a few points but the miss v City was a bad one and v Spurs would have won us the game. FER is the guy we have missed badly as seemed to be coming really good......and havent been able to replace him. Saying that OBZ missed a sitter last week.....as a keep saying fine margins in this league.
Out of that list, I suppose it means he's got a 50% conversion rate which will be worse than Aguero but better than the others. Incidentally, he'll apparently be on Soccer AM this Saturday. Must admit, I lost interest in that a few years ago but thought I'd mention it anyway.
Of course the others miss too! Aguero for one. All goal scorers miss far more chances than they convert. If this wasn't the case, then they'd all be scoring 60 goals per season. Nothing story this.
I'm a season ticket holder and I can't recall Charlie missing many gilt edged opportunities. I can recall a number of examples of: Adel not tracking back Leroy not tracking back Joey being left for dead for lack of pace Junior losing control of the ball Junior failing to get a cross in OBZ not getting a shot away Green making a poor kick Charlie being beaten to a header from Green's goal kick Sandro getting injured Harry telling a porkie Harry telling us how difficult it is Harry making an incomprehensible team selection Harry making an incomprehensible substitution Harry using the wrong tactics etc etc
