. DJ Campbell is confident he can re-discover his goalscoring form QPR striker: âI havenât played the part I wanted or expectedâ Ian Cooper Wednesday, May 2, 2012 11:55 AM Campbell urges Hughes to play him in Rangersâ final two games of the seaso DJ Campbell is urging Mark Hughes to give him the chance to fire QPR to Premier League safety. Campbell signed a two-year deal at Loftus Road in August, but a succession of injuries have restricted the forward to just 11 league appearances, 10 of which have been as a substitute. The January signings of Bobby Zamora and Djibril Cisse have pushed Campbell down the pecking order of forwards at the club, and the 30-year-old admitted he has endured a frustrating season so far. However, with Rangers facing a must-win match at home to Stoke City on Sunday, followed by a potentially season-defining trip to Manchester City, Campbell is convinced he still has a key part to play. âWhen I was injured I spoke to Mark Hughes and he said he wanted me back fit. Now Iâm back, Iâve been on the bench a couple of times and I havenât played the part I expected to or wanted to,â Campbell told London24.com. âBut Iâm there if he needs me and Iâm sure he knows that. I feel I have a part to play in the last two games, now I just have to see if I get it. Itâs down to the gaffer. âIt has been a very frustrating season with the injuries Iâve had, theyâve been more or less long-term injuries so itâs been tough. Last season I didnât have one injury. Itâs frustrating but Iâve got to get on with it. âIt means a lot for me to pull on the shirt, and I would have liked it to have been a better season both for me personally and for the club. I had several options in the summer, but I chose QPR because I still feel it is my club.â Campbell, who was born in Acton and attended Hoops home games as a youngster, insisted that Rangers can build on their recent home success to take another three points on Sunday. Having been hammered 6-1 by Chelsea last weekend, QPR entertain Stoke City knowing that anything less than a win could fatally damage their survival hopes, and Campbell is confident they can make it five home wins in a row against the Potters. âRegardless of the Manchester City game, Stoke on Sunday is a must win,â he said. âIt has to be a win because three points may be enough to keep us up. âWeâve done it against big clubs this year and I believe we can â and should â do it. âAt the start of the season we were poor at home, but in the second half weâve been really good. Hopefully the lads are confident and we have to forget the Chelsea game.â Follow me on Twitter @QPRTimes
No chance of getting a game versus Stoke or City. He'll get his chance in the championship next season either with us or someone else.
Will do well for us next season if we go down. Hope he stays either way as we havent seen the best of him.
there's a list of players on the rangers report about players out of contract in the summer. hill, buzz, vine, ramage, borrowdale to name but a few. there should be a lot of clearing out in the summer regardless of what division we're in.
QPR striker: âI havenât played the part I wanted or expectedâ Well thats very easy Mr DJ .. you're not very good are you and you was purchased by a complete fool at the expense of the best defender we have had at the club for 15 years
"Complete fool"! You can't call him that! Sir Colin ****er is the everlasting QPR legend who brought us from the brink of League 1 to 17th in the PL! And by the way Danny is still with us. DJ will come off the bench to score the winner when we beat City at the Ethiad a week Sunday.
On the basis of being a fan any of us could be in the squad. He was a panic buy at the *** end of the goons regime, has delivered nothing ( not entirely his fault), and won't be missed. I can never get the image of him running around 5 yards behind wherever the ball was at the Emirates out of my head. He was even worse at MK Dons, the type of level people seem to think he would be good at. Not his fault and I mean him no ill, but no place in our future.
Injuries happen. It's not his fault. He may well turn out to be a good player yet. If we go down he will score plenty. If we stay up, we can't get rid of everybody. He will stay and make a good 3rd or 4th choice forward.
He scored for fun at Blackpool because they had Charlie Adam pulling the strings and their all-out attacking formation created lots of chances for him. He's never really had a sniff this season and if he could attain proper fitness may surprise his knockers...
