The number of players QPR have been linked with is increasing by the day, and unsurprisingly they are all to shore up the back line which shipped five against Swansea. After securing the signing of Jose Bosingwa, they have been linked this week with Michael Dawson, Ryan Shawcross, Ricardo Carvalho, and in goal Artur Boruc and Julio Cesar. Each player would be a good addition their is no denying, but are QPR right to go for the quick fix option of buying in, or should they attempt to work with what they already have at their disposal? Are they right or justified to effectively give up on Rob Green after one game? They already have new signing Ryan Nelsen to test out, who started on the bench against Swansea. Why not give him a chance, and show some trust in the central defenders who started the match Clint Hill and Anton Ferdinand before launching multiple bids for replacements? What about tactics and work on the training ground rather than simply acting out a real life version of Football Manager? Now of course in an ideal world the problems would be easy to fix. But QPR are rightly considering if they concede five at home to Swansea, what will happen when they travel to Old Trafford and face Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie? Don't forget the way QPR were destroyed 6-1 by Chelsea at the end of last season, clearly the problems were not a one-off, and Anton Ferdinand is a defender who has lost his confidence, understandable given the off-field distractions which have been on his mind over the past few months. QPR are in a quandry, because if they do not act, they will struggle this season, the transfer window places a pressure on them to make signings now. Get caught napping and they will regret not signing. Their 'scattergun' approach was a criticism which was raised in January after Mark Hughes arrived and the club attempted to sign almost whoever they could. To be fair, it got them where they needed to be in the end, and it is necessary in this late stage of the transfer window. Focusing on just one target would be an error. No club wants to lose their key players, and may decide ultimately not to sell, while players themselves may choose to join another side. So they have to keep their options open, which they are doing, by pursuing multiple defenders and goalkeepers. The main point is all of this transfer activity should have been completed before the season kicked off rather than leaving it to the last minute. Doing it now they are in a bit of a panic. But the crucial point is, the players QPR are targeting are a clear step up from Rob Green and Clint Hill. If QPR end up with a back line including Ricardo Carvalho, Bosingwa and Julio Cesar, then Mark Hughes and Tony Fernandes have done their job, and talk of their 5-0 opening loss will soon be consigned to the history books as QPR begin their inevitable rise up the table. Watching the club splash the cash and bring in player after player might not be everybody's cup of tea, but with clubs next season set to get a huge bonus thanks to the Premier League's new television deal which will bring in 70 per cent extra revenue, QPR cannot afford the gamble of sticking with what they have after last weekend's performance. They are making shrewd moves, and whether you like their methods or not, ambitious QPR intend on being here to stay. What do you think of QPR's approach? Should they have made their moves sooner?
