Well, according to The Daily Fail, that is. "Queens Park Rangers are monitoring Jermain Defoe, often left out of the Tottenham first team, and could table an £8m bid for the England striker in the January transfer window." (Source: The Daily Mail) I'm sure we wouldn't sell him, unless he put a transfer request in. And if we did sell him, the chances are that someone like Sunderland would offer us £16 million. They continue to wind us up, but at least The Daily Fail has given up on the "Modric to Chelsea" story.
No offence to QPR, but I can't see Defoe leaving for a team that's not established in the Premier League, even if they are a London club. The price would be a little low in the summer, so considering the inflated January fees, I think he'd be expected to cost a bit more than that.
If we did sell him then we would have to get another forward in and January is never a great time to do so.This and the fact stated by PNP that we would want more makes this a complete load of BS IMO.
Not that ****er Joe Bernstein again is it! ...yeah, I can just see JD wanting to pair up with Taarabt again!
Guilty, your Honour! Listen, Ensil, I know full well that this is nothing more than another wind-up by The Daily Fail. I'm having a pop at the paper rather than QPR, as I have little doubt that the owner of QPR believes for one second that we'd let Defoe go at all, let alone for a mere £8 million.
With all due respects to QPR, Defoe wouldn't leave to join them unless they got a European place at the end of the season. Besides, Defoe is worth far more than £8m... Proven Prem goal scorer, England international and probably in the peak of his career, easily worth at least what we paid Pompey for - £15m, not that I'd want to sell him anyway.
Defoe wants to sure of his England place for Euro 2012, so no way would he join a club like QPR that could go straight back where they came from, next year. Sure they don't want Pav, instead. We could cut them a nice deal, there.
Despite this, along with the Huddlestone speculation, being pure paper trash there's another very good reason that these things are unlikely to happen: they're both English.
They can table any bid they want - I'm sure Levy's secretary has several suitable bins. I think £20m is more like it, but I don't think JD would take such a big step down ATM.
Never let the facts get in the way of a good thread. I'd love to work for The Daily Fail. Only, I'd do wind-ups about Arsenal and 'Pool every day
To be fair, though, I'm not really winding-up QPR, merely using them as the backdrop to poke fun at The Daily Fail. It's not my fault that rag chose to manufacture a "[Spurs player] to QPR" story.
No chance. Not just because of the price but I think Defoe will finish his career with us, or at least his last few years left of top flight football. I'd like him too anyway, big fan of JD, even when I haven't rated him as the best striker at the club I've always wanted him in the squad, he's probably England's best predator inside the box and the fact he loves Spurs always adds a huge bonus in my eyes.
