Queens Park Rangers manager Neil Warnock is preparing to step up his pursuit of a new defender and has set his sights on Manchester City's Wayne Bridge, according to reports in the Daily Mail.

Warnock's QPR are hovering just above the Premier League drop zone and is keen to bring some much needed experience to Loftus Road during the course of the January transfer window.

QPR are also set to lose Arman Traore, who will join up with Senegal for the African Cup of Nations later this month.Warnock has pinpointed Bridge as the man he wants to bring in on loan for the remainder of the season.

Over the past couple of weeks Premier League rivals Arsneal and Wolves have also been linked with a move for the former England international full-back.

However it is felt that QPR are in pole position to acquire the services Bridge and Tony Fernandes has been in touch with Bridge's representatives in order to get a deal completed.

    Good news I reckon.

I'd love to know in which parallel universe Man City count as rivals.

I'd rather have Onouha at left-back then Bridge

Nearly gave me a heart attack writing that we were about to lose Traore before seeing to the ACN.. Don't rate Bridge nor Silvestre who we have also been linked with...

QPR are close to tying up a loan deal for Manchester City defender Wayne Bridge.

The 31-year-old has made just one appearance for the Premier League leaders this season – in the Carling Cup victory over Birmingham back in September – and is surplus to requirements at the Etihad Stadium.

Rangers boss Neil Warnock is desperate to bolster his backline, who has leaked 35 goals in just 20 games so far this season.

Armand Traore's departure to the Africa Cup of Nations will leave veteran Clint Hill as QPR's only recognised left-back.

And the Chronicle understands Warnock has lined up a move to bring former Fulham and Chelsea star Bridge back to west London for the rest of the season.

However, the deal isn't expected to be completed in time for Saturday's FA Cup third round clash at MK Dons

Pretty sad state of affairs when Bridge becomes our number 1 defensive target. What's more worrying for me is that this is the kind of level that NW is looking at to reinforce the squad. IMO the last thing we need is journeymen footballers in the twilight of their careers. The squads bursting at the seems with those already!! This is the major difference between NW and the other two promoted managers: NW plugging gaps whilst PL and BR purchase players on the basis of them fitting into the pattern of play and team style. But when your not entirely sure what this should be (as NW seems to be), then the players targeted will merely be a collective of individuals, well-paid and on long contracts too! No wonder TF is reluctant, according to the Star at any rate, to release the big money.
