QPR planning January transfer moves to improve forward line confirms Harry Redknapp Nov 30, 2014 22:30 By Ann Gripper "Ideally you want 4 or 5 strikers. We got left in the lurch with Remy going" to Chelsea on deadline day says bpss again being linked with Jermain Defoe Mike Hewitt Striker light: Redknapp feels QPR are short of options at the sharp end Harry Redknapp wants to add to his front-line in the January transfer window - but admits he needs to work fast to line up targets. Charlie Austin has led the line for Redknapp's QPR this season, with seven goals already, but Redknapp is short on back-up, with Bobby Zamora fragile and Eduardo Vargas his only other option. Redknapp is keen on a reunion with old favourite Jermain Defoe, but the board have doubts about the potential signing of the 32-year-old former England international representing value for money. Jermain man: Redknapp managed Defoe at West Ham, Portsmouth and Tottenham The Hoops' boss said after Saturday's defeat of relegation rivals Leicester: "Ideally, you want four or five strikers. We got left in the lurch with Loic Remy going. It has left us short up front. "I can't say we are close to getting anybody. I would like somebody. "You need to move on January 1, rather than the last day of January. That is no good. - there will be another seven or eight games in January. "You have to have targets and if you want one or two in you want them in at the start of the month."
Defoe is a crock & too costly & too old. Tonz has closed the driveway service so no more meal tickets on offer. Crouch is pushing the 'too old' cart as well and would only be a good signing if he was to come cheap ................ ain't going to happen with 'Sparkless' managing Stoke. Kanjcar will probably be signed on as a permanent, which is a good thing. Bent ............ please no! Besides, how many games has Remy played this season. Hope he's loving sitting on the bench both in England and Europe. Could of really done a number for us, not to mention bolster his credentials.
I have almost worn out my keyboard across the last six transfer windows typing "we surely can't risk going on without more/better strikers" but maybe it's time to see the error of my ways. With a more sensible transfer policy now being used the chances of HR coming up with another Remy-like deal or even attracting the best Championship talent in January are zero. So, it's Defoe or no-no as far as I'm concerned. He's a know quantity whose fitness should be easily checked out.
If the table is a bit more in our favour by the time we get to January's window, I would quite like to see a bid for someone like Vardy. I was quite impressed with his performance on Saturday and he would probably relish playing at the top level rather than drop back to Championship. Defoe unfortunately, does not really excite me.
We got left in the lurch with Remy going" to Chelsea on deadline day - "we"??? the only person in the world surprised by that was HR
To be fair, after the Liverpool deal collapsed, I think a lot of people were very surprised. Especially as he ended up at Chelsea when he'd be linked heavily elsewhere.
Really? After a successful period at Newcastle, there was a pretty big risk he would be taken by a big club looking to finesse its attack. I recall members of this board screaming that Harry had to have a Plan B...but no, just a long face at the end of the transfer window
"He's a fantastic lad who loves his mum, a natural goal scorer, never once caused me trouble at all the clubs he played for me"
I'd like to see the Rs have another go for that Icelander that plays for Cillit Bang... Coalbed Methane, or whatever his name is.
As I said on another post I think our defence needs strengthening before new strikers. Our defence is worst in the league whereas there are 9 other teams who have scored less or the same as us.
Could that be linked to not having an outlet up front and the ball just coming stright back .....? Just a thought. Maybe a decent CF would create a bit more time for our defense to move up etc
