Wright-Phillips and Sturridge in the frame for England call-up By MATT LAWTON Last updated at 11:40 PM on 22nd September 2011 Comments (0) Add to My Stories Share Shaun Wright-Phillips' move to QPR has propelled him back into the England reckoning, with a recall to Fabio Capello's squad expected to follow. And Capello is also considering Chelsea's Daniel Sturridge, although he might wait until a likely friendly against Spain in November to bring in the young striker. Impressive: Queens Park Rangers' Shaun Wright-Phillips The England manager will watch Wright-Phillips in action against Aston Villa this weekend, having been hugely impressed by the former Manchester City winger since he moved to Loftus Road. His return to the international squad could come at the expense of a player who limited his opportunities at City. Adam Johnson was more in favour under Roberto Mancini but now he is struggling to secure regular first-team football and that could work to Wright-Phillips' advantage. Capello will also watch Joey Barton as QPR host Villa on Sunday, but right now there is no great desire to name him in the squad for next month's European Championship qualifier in Montenegro - an encounter that could determine if England qualify for Euro 2012 even though they might be able to lose and still go through. On the radar: Chelsea's Daniel Sturridge Capello was delighted to see both Steven Gerrard and Owen Hargreaves return to action on Wednesday night but there are no plans to draft them back into the squad until they have played more matches. The same goes for Michael Owen. One decent game in the Carling Cup is not about to earn him a recall when first-team appearances at Manchester United have been so limited. Looking ahead to next summer's European finals, the FA are favouring a city-centre base in Krakow, Poland, if England qualify. I reckon this is just conjecture and guess work, I doubt Capello would seriously consider him after first team games in a year. But it is fantastic to suddenly have a squad with so many players who I'm sure will soon be fighting for England places. I can't remember a time, even when we were successful where we had more than 1 player in the England team. I think the last QPR player to play for England was Sir Les. The one before that was David Bardsley and he only lasted 15 minutes before injuring himself.
That's the only concern with these international call-ups, players do get injured, Rowly was the prime example...
