QPR need to stick with Hughes, says Marsh
By Joe Moore | Wednesday, October 3, 2012
Former QPR forward Rodney Marsh believes QPR need stability if they are to fulfil their ambitions as a top-flight football club.

Speaking to The Sports Bar, Marsh said: “If you look at the most successful teams over the past 20 years it’s Manchester United and Arsenal, with the trophies they have won, and they’ve had their managers for over 40 years combined.

“When you look at QPR, recently promoted, they dump Warnock in the first season, they take on Mark Hughes and they’re in exactly the same position and now the fans want Sparky sacked.

“You never succeed in football over the long period if you constantly change your manager.”

Marsh also belives that the R's need stability in the squad as well as the board room after a misrable start to the season.

“The thing you need as a football team is continuity, the players have to get used to playing together and the forwards and the defenders need to have an understanding," Marsh continued.

    — Rodney Marsh
“They don’t know their best team. At the start of the season they gave Adel Taarabt the famous number 10 jersey and he sat on the bench and the Joey Barton situation was a nightmare.

“They brought in a goalkeeper [Julio Cesar] that was once the best in the world and he said when he arrived that he’s there to take QPR to the premiere championships, now he's sitting at the bottom of the league fighting relegation."

QPR continued their poor start to the term with 2-1 home defeat to West Ham on Monday and Marsh adds that despite club chairman Tony Fernandez’ best intensions, the club need to calm down their apparent haste to change in order for them to maintain their status in the Premier League.

“Tony Fernandez is desperate for success and to make Queens Park Rangers a top football club, I’m certain of that.

"When you do things as a new owner, you bring in loads and loads of players, you change the manager, you change the front office, you change the colour of the dugout seats and everything is change, change, change.

“Its constant turnover at QPR at the moment and you cannot succeed with constant turnover.”

Marsh also adds that he backs Manchester City, another of his former clubs, to retain the Premier League title after a mixed start to the season.

Our stadium holds 18,000, Rodney. We can't raise ticket prices enough to match the receipts that the likes of Manure and Gooners get.

Where does he mention gate receipts or capacity? He's talking stability. He mentions Man Utd and Arsenal for their success, and that's due to a lack of managerial turnover as much as deep pockets. He doesn't say anythign at all about having massive attendances or major gate receipts - simply that changing the manager every five matches (as we know) isn't the way to get any sort of consistency - unless you are looking to be consistently poor.

Rodney has not been heard of ror some time so like many others from a bygone era they have to promote themselves from time to time.
Rodders your predictions are like Del boys, Man City 3rd at best.
