QPR move has me back on track Thursday, February 06, 2014 Republic of Ireland international striker Kevin Doyle feels his career is now back on track thanks to last weekâs loan move to Queens Park Rangers from Wolves. By Robin Edwards Having been relegated twice with Wolves, Doyle found himself struggling to even get a game in League One in Kenny Jackettâs side at Molineux. He jumped at the chance to join Rangers and is now hoping to help them make an instant return to the Premier League and in the process boost his hopes of a permanent move to Loftus Road at the end of the season. Doyle, who launched his stay at Rangers with a debut goal against Burnley in last weekendâs 3-3 draw, said: âIâve been relegated twice, and itâs fair to say I need to get my career back on track. âPressure? Sure, thereâs pressure but itâs good pressure, you know? âI just want to prove what I can do. âItâs great to come into a club with realistic hopes of promotion and if I can play my part in helping achieve those goals, Iâll be delighted.â © Irish Examiner Ltd. Maybe early days but I think this will happen in Doyle's case, SWP had been in good teams and was unable to force his way in which tells me he had already given up a completely different mindset. Where Doyle has been driven down by circumstance and a poor team and probably a poor team spirit. If he stays fit he will be pushing Charlie for top goal scorer IMO.
He's not a prolific goal scorer. Never has been. I think he could play upfront with Charlie. I don't see them as similar players at all. I think Doyle could run the hard yards for Charlie and do the donkey work, allowing Charlie to stay in the positions where he can hurt the opposition the most. Doyle is an unbelievably honest player. He'll never be found wanting for effort and he has serious experience at Prem and international level. He could teach Charlie a thing or two but not how to score 20 odd goals a year
It is part of the PR for any new signing to 'talk the talk'. They are not likely to say, "Phew, glad I've got a job that's taken me away from the Midlands. I'm a bit knackered and not match fit at present but I'll give it a go and see how we get on." Possibly a more realistic statement. What did Samba say when he signed a year ago?
Definately agree with what Nutso said..... Also I see that the piece is from the Irish Examinor.....we are beginning to get a few more column inchs/cms over here now that we have Dunno and Doyler in the squad....woohoo
Kevin showed against Burnley that he has got a football brain and will provide goal scoring opportunities for himself and the team.
I think we know he is going to be a good team player but to be honest we need him to score goals, being a team player will not be enough to keep his place in the team. First game went well but way too early to get a real gauge of where he is.
If he scores another nine in the eighteen games left - presuming he's selected - he would be on the same goals per game ratio as Austin.
I'm afraid you won't get that from him mate. He's always been a good player but never a goal-scorer. That's not to say he won't be valuable. If he plays to his potential and Harry works things right, he'll create plenty of goals and the whole team will start to chip in (like on Saturday) instead of relying on one player like Charlie boy. He'll get a few himself of course but not many. I'd compare him to the Iceman in our last Promo campaign. An important player but far from prolific.
