I don't think this has been posted elsewhere.

QPR lost almost £25m after failed promotion attempt - West London Sport

For all those not worried about FFP, this is a wake-up call. 2021/2 could be described as a more "normal" season than the previous year when we "only" lost £4m thanks to the sale of Eze. But, of course, we did show the much-requested "ambition" in 2021/2 by splurging on Field, Johansen and Austin.

I imagine this is why we seem to have been more careful in the current season.

It seems as though we can't really win whatever we do, unless we either settle for mid table competitiveness in the championship, risking a drop to league one, or we risk it all, spend like drunk sailors, get promoted and make a decent job of it like Fulham have and, possibly Forest.
Obviously, the latter is more likely to end in failure, resulting in huge financial penalties and points deductions meaning we'll end up in league one anyway.
We're not producing any promising talent from our academy, so the model of selling players to survive is also flawed.
I could see us having to sell Dieng, Field, Chair and Willock at the end of this season.
The future is looking pretty depressing if, like me, you have a desire for Rangers to get back into the Premier League.
A very real danger is sliding down into league two or even non-league. There are teams currently playing non-league football that I have watched us play against in the old 2nd tier.

Grim reading. Realistically, if we are to balance the books and can't count on making windfall gains from player sales, we are a League 1 outfit.

Whatever happened to all those lovely illustrations of a new stadium? I’m pretty sure Mittal is still involved as he’d want that contract. Lots of lovely steel.

We've got to look really hard at what Luton and Coventry have done. Both have wage bills half the size of ours, both are chasing a playoff position. They also both have what I loved about our promotion squads from the L1 year and the Taarabt year - players who are working hard and have pride in the badge, and players who see playing for (their club in their case) QPR as a highlight in their career (Derry, Hill, Furlong, Bircham etc etc) not just a stepping stone.

This all boils down to recruitment, and as we know , we are utter **** at it ! The best example is the fact that Coventry bought Gykores for half the amount we paid for Dykes.
