EXCLUSIVE By Wayne Veysey | Chief Correspondent Queens Park Rangers are in talks to sign Tottenham and Chelseaâs youthful full-backs Kyle Naughton and Ryan Bertrand, Goal.com can reveal. Manager Neil Warnock has identified the England Under-21 internationals as two of his principal targets as he prepares to beef up his squad ahead of QPRâs return to the Premier League. Warnock is also lining up moves for free agent Jay Bothroyd, Blackpoolâs DJ Campbell and Hull City midfielder Jimmy Bullard. Goal.com understands that the QPR manager will have a summer kitty of between £10 million and £15m to bring in new blood. He has identified right-back, left-back, central midfield and centre forward as the key positions that require improving. Rangers have enquired about taking Naughton, who came through the ranks at Sheffield United and was on the verge of making the first team when Warnock was manager, on a season-long loan. The newly promoted club also want first option on a £4m deal to sign the right-back if they stay up in the Premier League. Spurs are willing to allow Naughton to go out on loan again following spells at Middlesbrough and LeicesterCity as there will be fierce competition for the right-back position at White Hart Lane next season, with Kyle Walker strongly tipped to establish himself as first choice ahead of Vedran Corluka and Younes Kaboul. Alan Hutton, who is a target for Aston Villa, Fulham and Sunderland, is expected to leave the club. please log in to view this image Boy in blue | Rangers want to buy Ryan Bertrand from west London rivals ChelseaBertrand, who has figured in Englandâs two Under-21 matches in the European Championships in Denmark, is highly regarded at Stamford Bridge but is behind AshleyCole and Yuri Zhirkov in the pecking order.QPR would rather buy the left-back than loan him as Premier League clubs are allowed to loan only two UK-based players per season. The Loftus Road club are preparing a £1.5m move for Bertrand, who has admitted he could be forced to leave Chelsea to get first-team football. Rangers face a battle with Everton to land recently-capped England striker Bothroyd, who is available for free following his departure from Cardiff City. Warnock is a long-time admirer of the 28-year-old and believes that the carrot of leading the line every week for a Premier League club and the attraction of returning to London will outweigh the possibility of marginally higher wages at Goodison Park. DJ Campbell is also a target â in addition to and not instead of Bothroyd â and Rangers believe they can snare the Blackpool man for £1m. West Ham are interested but the striker has let potential suitors know that he would rather stay in the top flight. Bullard, who spent the second half of last season on loan at IpswichTown, is also highly regarded by Warnock and available for free even though he cost Hull a club-record £5m and has two years left on his contract. The Tigers are keen to get Bullard, who is said to earn £45,000-a-week, off their wage bill and are willing to forsake a transfer fee to do so. Rangers would only be able to afford half of what Bullard earns at Hull but want to make him a pivotal member of their midfield.
If only half of it was true and comes off I would be happy - particularly the half involving Naughton, Bothroyd (and Bullard on a pay as you play).
Would welcome all 5 to be honest. They could all fit into the formation that we play. Believe it when i see it but something surely has to happen soon.
Don't know much about the Chelsea kid, but the rest are fine with me (if Bullard can stay fit). Still think we want a Centre Back (Bougherra ?) and somebody over on the left - Dos Santos looks better than he did at Spurs.
Ryan Bertrand's not bad at all if his performance in the England U21s the other night is anything to go by. Young and hungry - Rollercoaster Ranger will be pleased if this comes off!
Bertrand is quality. Would be over the moon if we got him, Naughton, Bullard + Bothroyd. To be honest I'm a bit non-plussed about DJ though I would still take him. All in all great news if true.
Of the centre halfs we have been linked with i hope Bassong would come in. Decent player at newcastle and spurs , proven PL player and still young enough to not just have a pay day.
I'd prefer Campbell to Bothroyd. I would love Noughton and Bertrand. Bullard has been an excellent player but I'm not sure if he is on the down slope now!
Gladly settle for that at this stage with a major injection in January by when Mittal will have taken over.
It's a pleasing shopping list with good players for needed positions! However with 16 games from Feb to end of the season, and a rotten last six games, we need to be investing NOW! We need a squad that puts points in the bag in the first half of the season. Just as we did in the Championship and what a bonus that turned out to be for us as the season went on!
Sorry lads, but Bertrand has already been talking to his old manager Buck Rodgers, we've been in talks for the last week, so don't get your hopes up on Bertrand, "It seems that Brendan Rogers is "in talks" with Chelsea about taking Betrand to Wales for the season ahead of Swansea's first season in the Premier League". - Chelsea Daft........ please log in to view this image Link: http://www.chelseadaft.org/2011/06/swansea-looking-at-betrand-for-season.html Link: http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/new...sign-Ryan-Bertrand-on-loan-article746448.html Link: http://www.walesonline.co.uk/footba...nterest-in-chelsea-s-bertrand-91466-28871488/
I think bullard is passed it, and wont get in ahead of tarbs, faurlin but maybe derry. but warnock says he wants a big squad as thats why blackpool struggled. bothroyd, mcfadden, mckail-smith, carew, benjani, or upson would all be good squad players and are all on free (minus smith) and would all be worth a gamble, even if on a years contract.
You know me too well Brixton! Just because they are talking doesn't mean a deal has been done. Patience !!!!!!!
