Report: QPR keen on Peterborough striker Conor Washington after Les Ferdinand scouting mission Billy Hawkins @bhawkinsss QPR, Birmingham and Wolves are fighting to sign Peterborough’s Conor Washington. please log in to view this image QPR have entered the race to sign Conor Washington following Les Ferdinand's scouting mission, the Daily Mail reports. Ferdinand, director of football at Loftus Road, was in the stands to watch Washington net his 14th goal of the season in Posh's 3-2 victory over Sheffield United on Saturday. It has been a prolific season for Washington in front of goal, and his form in League One has been earning rave reviews, and interest from higher up the Football League pyramid. QPR’s interest in signing the 23-year-old in January comes following Wolves and Birmingham City showing an interest in him. The Daily Mail reported in December that the two Championship sides were fighting it out to sign the hotshot forward. There are no indications that any offers have yet been made for the former St. Ives and Newport County man, although with QPR now entering the race for his signature, a bidding war is likely to start in the coming days.
Wolves, Birmingham and Cardiff are reported as the others interested in him. Plied his trade for St Ives Town scoring 52 in 50 games for the non-league side and then a rather disappointing 5 from 39 for Newport County. It didn't stop the Posh from signing him for £500,000 though and has scored 27 in 81 for them. He's no Charlie Austin but then again who is?
" Peterborough United have rejected three bids for forward Conor Washington, according to chairman Darragh MacAnthony. The 23-year-old, who joined from Newport in January 2014, has scored 14 goals in 29 matches this season, 12 of which have come in his last 13 games. His form in League One has seen him linked with Championship side Reading. But MacAnthony said he has rejected two bids from ex-Premier League clubs and one from "a large Championship club". He said on Twitter: "I value our young squad, know their talent and they trust that when and if right deal comes along, Ill do right by them and our club. It's our policy." http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/35261966
Wolves have just sold Afobe for a big profit in a very short period, it would make sense that they'd be interested in another striker doing well in League 1. I can see him going there more than us.
Nice one Minxy. How good is this Washington fellow? In your humble opinion is he good enough to make the step up to the Championship? I like the sound of your chairman Darragh MacAnthony. He wears his heart on his sleeve and tells it like it is without the bull.
Washington is great ... I'd like to see him stay until the end of the season as he is on a roll for us & I think it would be great for his confidence I think he could certainly do well in a Championship team Darragh is a great owner & does not stand in the way of selling players if it looks like the right move for them & we get the right money.
just keep quiet and buy him, if we really want to. Otherwise, like most ,he'll finish up at Derby, M'boro or a top (not bottom ) 6 team. If I was a neutral I would sooner sign for Brentford than us and that is very hard for me to type.
Dream on re Bamford he has even more reason to go to derby/ mboro. Roofe anyone or are we again too late?
Not sure I'm convinced, he had a great non league record but prior to his current run of form he was pretty below average as a goalscorer, could be a dud but then could be worth a punt for the right price!
