QPR have held crisis meetings to address issues, reveals Mark Bowen QPR assistant manager Mark Bowen reveals the Hoops have held crisis meetings to address their poor start to the season ShareCommentsBy Kieran Beckles 2:26pm UK, Thursday 8 November 2012 Mark Hughes' QPR are still searching for their first Premier League winPhoto: The Sport Review Queens Park Rangers have held crisis meetings after a 1-1 draw with Reading on Sunday to assess the reasons behind the clubâs poor start to the season, assistant manager Mark Bowen has revealed. The Hoops are currently in 19th place in the Premier League and five points from safety after failing to pick up a victory in their opening 10 games. QPR manager Mark Hughes signed 11 new players during the summer transfer window to strengthen his squad, including big-name stars such as Júlio César, Esteban Granero and Park Ji-Sung. And Bowen revealed there have been a series of tense discussions between staff and players about recent performances, and he hopes to see a reaction against Stoke City on Saturday. âIn the last two days we had meetings, sat down and let individuals know in no uncertain terms itâs unacceptable,â Bowen told QPR podcast Open All Rs. âThey held their hands up and took it on board and we will work at it to make sure we are better next time. âWe encouraged them to point a few fingers and put demands on them. âI want them to be a bit more angry.â With Hughes second-favourite behind Southamptonâs Nigel Adkins to be the first manager to get the sack this season, former Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp has been linked with the Loftus Road outfit. However, Hughesâ number two Bowen dismissed Redknappâs reputation as a miracle worker for struggling clubs by pointing to his failure to guide the Saints to safety in 2005. âPeople talk about Harry this and that,â added Bowen. âThe fact is he took over at Southampton in 2005 as the big saviour and took them down. âBut when things go wrong, people say get Harry in.â
Bit of a swipe at Harry and I dont think that was called for.Ok,it didnt work out at Saints but he forgot to mention most of Harrys sucesses, including dragging a bottom three spurs to the other end of the table!
bound to have a swipe after all the speculation was never going to give harry praise were they their jobs are on the line also its worth remembering redknaps not pulled every team out of the fire
These Crisis Meetings should have become a regular date in the weekly diary by now. “In the last two days we had meetings, sat down and let individuals know in no uncertain terms it’s unacceptable" = we asked them for ideas to save our jobs. “They held their hands up and took it on board and we will work at it to make sure we are better next time" = they had headphones on and seemed preoccupied. “We encouraged them to point a few fingers and put demands on them" = we've tried everything else, so why not a blame culture? “I want them to be a bit more angry” = I want them to take those damned headphones off! “People talk about Harry this and that” = Harry has a better CV than Hughes. “The fact is he took over at Southampton in 2005 as the big saviour and took them down" = Hughes took over the Rs in 2012 as the big saviour and, er.... “But when things go wrong, people say get Harry in” = things are going wrong, get Harry in!
I haven't ever crossed paths with bower before but he hasn't inspired me here. i honestly can't understand why it takes a few months to get going!!
Once again, we are in the know, but not quite enough. If the outcome of that meeting was a renewed sense of camaraderie, purpose, eneergy and enthusiasm then Stoke better watch out. However, if the laternative is true, and with Stoke's aerial threat, then there is another loss for us on the way. I watched the Reading game again this morning (why did I have to torture myself so badly?!) and I still cannot believe we did not win that game. Lads and Lass, our luck will change in due course. It is the anticipation of that which makes me excited, once again, to look forward to 3pm tomorrow. COYRsssss!!!!!
The players should watch the Celtic game to see what a well organised disciplined and committed to the badge performance can achieve. Not one yellow card in that game. They already have the talent and ability, no excuses for not trying hard enough.
When things go wrong don't get 'Arry in, just get Hughes out. They must be rattled or he wouldn't have been sanctioned to even mention old saggy chops
Hi Queens. Chance after chance! The two final chances, Taarabt and Cisse are just mouth watering! Can you imagine if Cisse's had won with the final kick of the game?! I think the stadium might have collapsed. A pleasant thought but, sadly, only a day dream.
I've watched that game 3 times now and am totaly bewildered as to the result.. i wonder if 1 of our players had actually put the bloody ball in the net; what the mood would be on the board ?! Would we all be singing MH's praises..
Dont agree with that mate. we have played some of the best football i have ever seen us play this season. fact is we cannot defend for sh**e and cant score enough goals......dont think we've been sh**e but defo not been up to the task..!
Luck does play a part. Offside goal for Arsenal just to start with. Taarabt one on one with Reading keeper (albeit under pressure) and misses. Deflected Man City goal as game clincher. Mackie not being awarded penalty in Reading game - even the commentator said Reading let off lightly. Yes, we have been ****e at time but we've also played well at times. I do agree with MH when he says the performances (mostly ie > 50%) don't deserve us being where we are. I think it will change sometime, with or without MH.
