QPR manager Harry Redknapp is keen to pair new signing Rio Ferdinand with Steven Caulker at centre-back after having a bid for the Cardiff City defender accepted.

Ferdinand completed his free transfer to Rangers on Thursday and Redknapp confirmed that the Loftus Road outfit had agreed a fee with Cardiff for Caulker.

It is believed a bid in the region of £8million has been accepted for the England international.

Heading off: Cardiff City has accepted a bid from QPR for Steven Caulker (right), says Harry Redknapp

Redknapp said he was confident the 22-year-old would become a better player alongside Ferdinand.

'We've agreed a fee for Steven Caulker, who I like very much,' he told Sky Sports News.

'I had him at Tottenham as a player and he's done very well.

'I think for him to come and play with Rio would be a great experience for him.

'I'm looking to play with three central defenders this year. So (there are) those two and then I've got Richard Dunne, Nedum Onuoha, Clint Hill, I've got real good defenders here.

'I think for Steven Caulker to come in and be part of it with those experienced players will be great for him.

'I think Rio will be a big influence on him. I think for Steven it will be the best education he could ever have in his life to play with Rio.'

Caulker moved to Cardiff last summer for a then club-record fee from Tottenham Hotspur.

Had the journalist only just realised we had a bid accepted almost a month ago?

Talk Sport announcing it again as a done deal.

I hope we don't have to wait until Thursday!!

it said on skysports that he was still considering other offers so I'll be very surprised if he signs.
    can I ask the question?
    "is he that good?"
it seems a lot of hassle for a guy who doesn't seem to want to join us.

In my experience the likelihood of a transfer saga like this one yielding a positive result is inversely proportional to the length of time it takes for the decision to be made by the player. Hooper, Parker, Mvila.

Who wouldn't want to consider other offers ? Why is it wrong for a player to want the best offer for himself.

Maybe its us, maybe its someone else ???

Arriving in a dressing room like ours having made us sweat waiting for a better offer is not the greatest way to introduce yourself.

Not a believer, but a good player. I think strangely Rio wanting to be here is displaying a better attitude and he's only been given a year. Well done Rio.

I'm sure all professional footballers understand the way the game is played with transfers. Players are usually just automatons operated by their agents, half of them haven't got the brains to think for themselves.

Besides we just don't know what's going on. It would be great to get the deal done now, because clearly if you move to plan b and work your way down the list, obviously every player you pursue is a lesser player than the player you've given up on.

But I do think we should give it no more than a few more days and then wish him good luck in his search for a better deal.

QPR have agreed a fee for Cardiff centre-back Steven Caulker, according to Rangers' manager Harry Redknapp.

Redknapp is hopeful of signing the 22-year-old to play alongside recent acquisition Rio Ferdinand.
But he admits the England cap is still considering offers from other clubs.

"He's got a couple of other clubs interested in him but I think he feels if he was playing with Rio, it could help him get back into the England team," said Redknapp.

It's a simile citing the development of Gary Cahill based on the on field influence of England stalwart [and resident pantomime villain] John Terry.

It would certainly help his game and England aren't exactly over-loaded with top class centre backs!
If we are to play with three centre backs, Caulker and Ned each side of Rio would help both their games immeasurably imo.
