QPR hardman Joey Barton says Sir Alex Ferguson will return to Manchester United SIR ALEX FERGUSON will sensationally return to boss Manchester United IF David Moyes is axed. By Carl Eldrige/Published 19th January 2014 That is the stunning claim from controversial QPR star Joey Barton as Moyes takes his United team to Chelsea today for a crucial top-flight encounter. Under-fire Moyes is desperate to get a result from the Premier League clash at Stamford Bridge to ease the mounting pressure on his position as manager of a struggling Old Trafford outfit. Barton, 31, said: “Ferguson has long been a master manipulator. I almost get the feeling he wants David Moyes not to do so well at United so he can come back and save the day. “That wouldn’t surprise me, hence the reason he’s everywhere. When you’ve had that many years of power and control it is difficult to let go. He threatened to retire for about ten years before he actually finished up. “Moyes walked into tough situation. Fergie was smart enough to think, ‘Somehow I’ve won the league against all these teams with all this money, I’m not going to be able to do it again. This is my time to bow out at the top’. “He left Moyes an incredibly difficult task. Not only Moyes but executive vice-chairman Edward Woodward who seems to be handling the business side of transfers.” Barton believes United’s transfer activity was a shambles in the summer and the club are paying a heavy price. “I almost get the feeling he wants David Moyes not to do so well at United so he can come back and save the day” Joey Barton He added: “They were thrown in at the deep end and they didn’t manage to swim. They’ll be better this window for it but the title’s gone because of that. “You’ve got to at least let Moyes buy his own players and put his stamp on the team. If given time, Moyes is a good enough manager and will turn it round. “And if he manages even a fraction of Fergie’s success, he won’t have done too badly.” Moyes brought in Marouane Fellaini from former club Everton but Barton has slaughtered the £27million deal. He said: “Fellaini was a panic buy. He’s playing out of position, first and foremost. He isn’t a central midfielder.”
Joey Barton made a similar comment after the Sunderland match via Twitter. My guess is that a journalist picked this up and asked him to write it up as an article; expanding on the points he made and omitting the profanities!
Not sure that Fergie is waiting to come back in but I agree that he got out when he knew the squad would struggle in the future. He had been trying to get a midfield manager for several years with out any luck, hence him bring Scholes back and use Giggs so much. For me you need to give Moyes until Jan next year, give him time to build his own team.
Sensible words from Joey who obviously target to be a football pundit for sky or at least a columnist for a big selling paper. Anyway having seen yesterdays match im certain it would been different outcome with manU having Rooney&V.Persie playing. With those two missing any team in the world would suffer.
Couldn't agree more with Joey on this. In fact I had the same conversation with a few mates on Friday.
Has Ferguson really gone? He'll always be connected with the club and I'm sure he is there for advice for Moyes. United more than any team understand the importance of giving a manager a chance, as they did with Ferguson, who everyone thought was finished at Man U with the way results went, but they backed him and the rest is history. But the difference now is, Man U aren't starting from a lowly position and money is now everything in football. If United don't make Europe next season it will hurt them massively, but could Ferguson replacing Moyes in desperation save them from the position they're in? With Arsenal, Everton and Liverpool all having good season, the top 4 places are no longer nailed on, so it will be harder than ever for United to turn it around. So I think United should stick with Moyes and just ride it out. He is a good manager, you don't keep a team with no money in the position Everton were in during his reign without being good at the job. He just needs time to get passed the nerves, add his own players and go from there. It was never going to be easy, no matter who replaced Ferguson to keep United up at the top, most teams for the last 20 years have expected to lose against them, and that has been just as much about Ferguson than the players on the pitch, now he's gone everyone thinks they can take United and many are. But I'm sure Moyes will come good for them, if they give him a chance, the question is can they afford to take that risk nowadays?
Absolute codswallop from beginning to end IMO. The idea that Ferguson's retirement from the game is just an elaborate ruse so that United and Moyes can crash and burn, and allow him to come back as gaffer again is utter paranoid balls. Disappointed that so many people are giving this tosh credence.
