I was just curious if anyone knew anything about our fans groups? Who are they? Who started them? Who do they speak for?

I noticed a post on Twitter by QPR1st saying they'd been in contact with Cargiant regarding the Old Oak Common site and were now requesting a meeting with the club. While I'm sure their efforts are for the club, it just struck me as slightly delusional that they think they can get involved in what will be the facilitating of the largest construction project in Europe, a project that is the darling of the Mayor of London and worth Billions of Pounds. So why do a few fans think they can have an influence whatsoever in the grand scheme of things?

I've noticed before that QPR1st have released "statements" on any issue involving the club and they always talk as if they were the elected face of the fans. Yet apart from seeing these occasional posts on Twitter I've never really heard of QPR1st, I certainly didn't vote for them and I don't see how they can represent the fans.

So what part do fans groups play? Surely a small, self appointed group can only represent it's own views and not that of the majority of the fans.

    What are your views?

I think I speak for everyone when I say no.

I can see the official supporters association as a link into the club over mainly matchday experience issues but I can't imagine why a group would speak to Cargiant, despite the historic links, about the move. I'd credit everyone who is involved with enough nous to do their bit, in full knowledge that this can take time, and some outsiders with a vested interest saying pretty please with a cherry on the top won't sway much (or may even harm the negotiations from the club's side by making them look weak and disjointed).

I recall QPR1st started about the time there were collections in buckets to help the club and the odd wealthy fan bought the likes of Dou Dou.

They may have had some influence then. Once Briatore came in, and since then, they surely have very little.

Sometimes football fans of the more fanatical end of the spectrum (i.e. who may have very little else in their lives) lack a sense of perspective about things, and over estimate their own importance and influence.

That is the problem. They don't really know what is/has been going on behind the scenes and they don't know who is posturing and why. Anything they say and do could do more harm than good. But it does give these people a sense of self importance.

I can't understand why they would want to get involved like this. What can they do or add to the mix that would make any difference whatsoever?

I could understand if it was going to be like Wimbledon a few years ago, uprooting and going miles away and changing their name, and the fans contacting Milton Keynes Council to try and stop them using the council owned stadium, but this does not affect the fans in the same way at all.
