Hello everyone, QPR have just signed one of your ex players Jay Emmanuel-Thomas. Could anyone give me some feedback on what sort of player he's like? Thought Id ask you guys and gals being I know and get on well with a lot of your members. Anyway enjoy your 6 points when you play us this coming season Thanks in advance for your comments!
Got some skill, lacked application when with us. Typical young lad who started his football life at a big club academy (Arsenal) and then thought he'd made it. Came to us after the gunners and dropped down to league one after that so I hope he's realised what it takes to be a top footballer now.
Cheers SD. Having looked at his recent stats he seems to be scoring still. Qpr have not had any joy with recent signings of late so it's good to have some honest feedback. I thought if Ipswich sold him then he may not be all that being your a respected club with proper football history
I think it may have taken him to go to league one to make him realise that he could throw everything away if he doesn't knuckle down. Hopefully he's a bit more grounded now, he had a bit of the diva syndrome whilst with us.
I think if you play him regularly as a forward and somebody makes him feel important he has the skills to be a decent player.
Adel will have the QPR supporters split for ages. He's like Marmite. For sure he helped us in our Championship winning season but Mark Hughes, Harold and now Chris Ramsey gave up on him. He was fined many times for not turning up for training or being late. There are many reliable reports that his attitude stinks and he thinks he is above everyone else. It's a real shame as he no doubt has talent but he's not the sharpest tool in the box. His attitude could also be a dressing room divider. I remember when we played Fulham in the Prem a few seasons back. He was not picked in the starting eleven for that game or the bench. He decided to get on a bus and go home rather than stay with the squad, not very professional when the club are paying you £50k a week (yes silly £$£ for a small club like QPR) I do still wish him all the best and hope he does not waist the talent he has!
Mate, I really rated JET when he played for us, yeah, he could fade in and out of games (and was therefore obviously not a 'McCarthy type player'), but on his day he could rip defenses apart at will, defenses would double up or triple up on him and he'd still go past them, sublime skills, you could see the fear in the defenders eyes when, on his day, JET ran at them with that languid style of his...when I used to drive my two teenage sons to Portman Rd in those days the one question that they would be asking me was, 'Is JET playing today?' He was the player that they wanted to see... I was on the TWTD forum earlier and already there's a thread about the possibility of JET coming back to haunt us with his trickery...
I agree with welly, on his day was a match winner, but unfortunately they were not often enough. With the right man management, who could find that desire inside him, he could be a top championship player, and even a lower prem player, but he needs to do it more often.
When he was up for it he was awesome.....but the other 95% of the games he was a liability IMO .....I don't think he has the right mentality to be a good consistant player.
I'm quite well positioned to answer this question as I'm an Ipswich fan living in Bristol - occasionally go to the gate, and have many friends who are season ticket holders there. What you do have is - 6'4 guy built like a tank, ability to skin 3/4/5 players, awesome distributor of the ball, capable of scoring from 20/25/30 hell 35 yards. Then you have his attitude to life. Wenger even came out and said at one stage, he's the most talented player he's had in youth football during his spell at Arsenal. He also is quite slow, makes Patrick Kluivert at Newcastle/ Mario Jardel at Bolton seem semi hard working players. You would have to play 4-3-3 for him to fit into your system - Cotterill tried to fit him into a 4-4-2 either CM or wide and couldn't. In summary - he will probably get you 12 goals/ 9 assists or so from 46 championship games should he feature enough for you. So good on paper. However, for a good 75 minutes of games you will be playing with 10 men. Of course, you'll love him until November when he has a semblance of workrate, possibly December if you're lucky and then you will think " that's why he left Arsenal " - I went to City v Luton fa cup first round I think this season. Sitting with some fans, talking asking what they made of him. Spoke to one lad who saw E.Thomas in Motion nightclub absolutely hammered at 8am ( around 4/5/ hours before kick off ) so I have no doubt if you live in London you will meet him in bars/ clubs at will. Bit of a kendrin spirit is E.Thomas. That said, he's 24 I believe and it really is down to him. I would say, IF he had the motivation/interest in doing the best in life at football he'd be at Everton or so by now. I wish you the best with him, hope he has a good season but I'm glad he doesn't represent us any more and would never want him back. 5-10 good minutes a game are not worth the 80 minutes or so half paced daydreaming.
Thanks again for all the feedback everyone. So it seems he has the potential but must try harder so possibly a good squad player. The main reason why I asked is QPR have a recent history of signing players with the wrong attitude/mercenary's and it's become a bit of a joke of late. We'v just had a huge clear out with players contacts ending. The noise coming out from the club is lessons have been learnt and paying stupid £40k plus a week wages will not be the case anymore and can't be due to FFP rules. Also much has been said about getting the right sort of player in, no bad eggs as such. We may have owners with cash who have been willing to stump up for players but it's been nothing short of a disaster. No plan as such, just throw money at it and look where it got us. Anyway good luck for the coming season, I can see Ipswich at least making the playoffs again
What you describe above sounds similar to us when Marcus first bought us. We were over spending on household name players who came in and didn't perform. We were a team full of overpaid mercenaries. Since Mick has been here he has cleared out all the players with a terrible attitude, regardless of skill level, and replaced them with good characters. Last seasons squad may not have been littered with sublime talent but everyone to a man put their all into matches. It made me proud to be an Ipswich boy again to have that kind of drive in our team, it was a huge difference from life before Mick arrived.
" Westy, I am confused? What sort of players was he "skinning"? " I'll answer as a serious response to start with as assume this is a WUM post, however, JET has the ability to dribble past 2 / 3 players and often has in his career. example.
Everton Reserves was probably not the best answer that you could have given to the Budgie wum, JET's best match for us was in our 5-1 destruction of Wet Sham in their promotion season, although he had many other moments, that's the match the stands out in my memory...
