QPR eye Newcastle man and will pay West Hamâs Green £50k-a-week â report 30/05/2012 by Matt Barrett QPR want Newcastle defender Danny Simpson and are willing to pay West Ham keeper Robert Green £50,000-a-week, The Sun report. Magpies full-back Simpson has so far not agreed a new deal at St Jamesâ Park, while Greenâs contract expires this summer. It is claimed that Rangersâ willingness to match Greenâs wage demands are scuppering West Hamâs attempts to keep the England international. Arsenal are rivalling QPR for the signing of Manchester City midfielder Nigel De Jong, according to the Daily Mirror. Rangers boss Mark Hughes has been linked with the Dutchman, who played under him at Eastlands. And it is claimed that Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is also keen to capture De Jong after failing to land Rennesâ Yann MâVila.
Arsenal could use a good defensive midfielder so I can see some truth in this, would be a shame though.
I doubt that we would realistically be unable to attract players like De Jong to QPR, for now. It's a good sign of intent though if true. I think that someone of De Jong's ilk would be looking for a regular start at one of the top six sides. Our USP would be that we're a team on the up and looking to develop. That may be the reason we might acquire established internationals who feel that they may want to be part of this challenge and endear themselves to the fans of our club for years to come. I would really expect Sparky and Co to bring in players that know one has really heard of, more Dembele, Kompany and Diakite type players. Un-polished diamonds if you like. It does make you wonder though, are there no English or British enforcer type players with potential anymore?
Stranger things have happened. Robinho went to City. It only takes one deal and then the floodgates open. De Jong is in his twilight years and the location/wages would be ideal plus he has worked with De Jong before
So, I don't think for a minute that we will be spraying around that much cash but as both City and the scum have proved you can buy anything if the price is right.
It's not just that though. It's location, lifestyle etc. Manchester and London are great cities and anyone would want to settle there, if the money/location/ambition/playing time is right the player will move and QPR would tick all the boxes in that respect
Is the new training ground going to have an inbuilt, hoisted cage that descends over Barton and de Jong, signalling the start of a bloody death match?
You have just made me feel ever so old District...the dutch destroyer is only 27 years old!..that's a full 10 years younger than the ginger ninja ;o)
A better R/B than Onouha in my opinion. But Nedum is more of a C/B. Personally I can't see that Simpson would want to leave Newcastle.
The Toon lads reckon he's decent, not great going forward, stong in the tackle but tendency to back off and let crosses get put in. They won't be distraught if he goes. Apparently wants pay parity with other squad members. They didn't like my idea of a swap for Barton though.
