QPR defender Max Ehmer models himself on John Terry - and head of youth development Steve Gallen reckons the youngster has the potential to emulate the Chelsea and England captain.

The 19-year-old German-born centre-back, who was a pupil at ACS Egham, in Englefield Green, has just put pen to paper at Loftus Road on a one-year extension to the three-year deal he signed aged 17.

Having impressed in 27 appearances on loan at League One’s Yeovil Town last term, the Virginia Water-based defender now hopes to push his career to new heights.

On holiday in Dubai this week, Ehmer took time out and said: "John Terry is the player I look up to. The way he heads the ball, his passing, his tackling. And I play as a left-sided centre back too. I model my game on his."

Ehmer reckons his time at Yeovil strengthened him as a character and hopes it stands him in good stead for the season ahead.

"I enjoyed it there and now I am getting ready for pre-season at QPR.

"I’d like to be more involved in and around the first team squad, but it depends on who they bring in.

"Obviously being in the Premier League now has made it harder for me. So if it means me going out on loan then so be it.

"If that happens, then somewhere higher up in League One or in the Championship would be my preference."

Gallen believes Ehmer has the attitude and dedication to progress his career.

"He’s technically very good," he raved. "He was my captain in the youth team for two years.

"I’m delighted he’s going to be at QPR for the next two seasons.

"He’s a great lad and I think he’s got a proper career in front of him. He’s a winner and reminds me a lot of John Terry. I look at the way he heads it, passes it and reads the game and I see the same qualities. Obviously if Max achieves half of what Terry has he will have had a fantastic career."

I know Ehmer's dad is fairly wealthy... but a Fulham Chronicler interviewing an Rs junior in Dubai - during a 'recession'? There's a news story in there somewhere!

He's certainly an improving player and one to watch for the future, nice to see some youngsters doing so well...
