QPR defender lifts lid on Portugal training trip By Paul Warburton Feb 19 2012 * ARMAND Traore reckons bonding with the current QPR squad has been the real winner of a week away in Portugal. The Senegal defender insists the week-long trip in the sun that saw players and coaches not only train, eat, drink, but socialise together, has brought them closer together. Without a game since the narrow 3-2 defeat at Blackburn nine days ago, Rangers also had the chance to train in a moderate climate and cast off shackles of a team struggling to avoid the drop. And Traore and the rest of his team-mates also discovered just how much of a joker striker Bobby Zamora is at the team hotel. He said: âBobby is very funny and added to the relaxed atmosphere when werenât focused on the pitch. âWe sometimes donât even eat together after we train back home. Some players want to leave early, so being around each other all the time has been a great help. You end up talking to players you might not mix with normally â and thatâs good.â Ironically, Traore reckoned he was glad to be rid of the stifling heat that was Equatorial Guinea and the African Cup of Nations where Senegal surprisingly bombed out early in the competition. âYou need far more time to acclimatise to that kind of heat if youâre European,â he added.
There's a lot of anticipation regarding next Saturdays game. The type of performance will give a good indication as to the destiny of the rest of our season. Hope or despair?
Previously when Hughes has taken Manchester City, Blackburn and Fulham away during the FA cup break, all 3 teams have achieved extremely positive results afterwards. Hope the same result occurs for us...
