QPR are considering making Rob Green available to other clubs in an attempt to offload the goalkeeper during this month’s transfer window. A clause in the 35-year-old’s contract means he will land a new deal at Loftus Road if he plays 30 times this season. Green has made 25 appearances so far this term. His contract is due to expire at the end of the campaign. The club are keen to reduce their wage bill and in any case manager Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink wants to give Alex Smithies a chance to impress. Smithies, 25, has made only four first-team appearances since being signed from Huddersfield during the summer. Rangers are therefore discussing the possibility of offering Green, who has 12 England caps, to other clubs. Green has made 128 appearances since arriving on a free transfer from West Ham in 2012. He played a key role in Rangers’ promotion from the Championship in 2014 and in March was recalled to the England squad for the European Championship qualifier against Lithuania. http://www.westlondonsport.com/qpr/qpr-consider-making-green-available-for-move
Maybe unfair on him IMO He has been outstanding at times for us Still he is one nervous human being I could have shot him many times when he takes goal kicks And when we are protecting a lead he plays it too early
Offload him. He is on the downside of his career and not worthy of a new contract. His value is only going down with each mess he creates in the box. If this is going to shape up as a consolidation year (or two), give the shirt to Smithies to grow in the job.
QPR consider making Green available for move Maybe that has been the problem all along...QPR have prevented or restricted his movement and so he has not been able to function as a goalie...it has restricted his clearances and distribution, his ability to get to a cross or a ball, restricted his ability to kick This could be the answer, allow Green to move....and he will turn into the England goalie we once knew (somewhere else no doubt)
So we must start playing Smithies and absolutely ensure that under all circumstances Green doesn't get to play more than four more games. What a ridiculous clause written into his contract, crazy. It would be just like our club to cock it up though.
And to think it was almost three years to the day that Harry Redknapp named three goalkeepers in the matchday squad.
Get rid, NOW, and give Smithies a chance with Lumley as understudy. We simply have to give youth a chance.
Who's bloody stupid idea was it to insert the 30 game clause in his contract? He only has to play another 5 games to get an extension....madness.
Green can't move or when he does he makes a mistake. I have given up with all these overpaid names now.
His agent no doubt. Seeking to leverage the best deal for his client with the widest options and maximising his client's earning potential; ergo advantageous to his agent's commission too!
Didn't someone post on another thread mentioning that Green had signed a new contract a little while back? This is what his 4 season with us? Should have got rid last summer and given McCarthy a run.....now Smithies......
At least one thing is obvious - Green will not be playing more than four more games for us. The decision that he is not getting an extension has been made. He goes now, or sees out the season on the bench or gardening. Well done JFH!
Considering it? They should be insisting on it. The bloke is completely gone. He's been awful for over a year now.
The horrible truth could very well be that had we gotten rid of him at any stage since that first fateful day he stood up tallish in our goalmouth, you just know that whoever his replacement would have been would have cocked up just as badly - if not worse, if that's possible - and how many of us would be screaming that we let go a great keeper and shot stopper and why? OK, maybe just me and Ted
I may be misreading this but there does seem to be an implication that Green plays because he gets paid a lot. Has that been a rule from on high, I wonder.
Keep that up Beth and we'll have you supersede Ramsey as new Technical Director. Your a fountain of knowledge.
I think I'm about the only one who doesn't hate Cesar, always put in a shift usually a decent one, always trained (not heard anything to contradict that), sat on the bench when placed there and went out on loan when he was asked to. The contract was the fault of the club and who in their right mind when offered a contract would say ohhhhhh think that might be far too much! Just annoys me when he is put in the same bracket (by some) as Boswanker and SWP !!!
