QPR chief executive drops stadium hint - QPR - London 24 Beard was brought to the club by owner Fernandes QPR chief executive drops stadium hint Ian Cooper Wednesday, November 30, 2011 5:10 PM Beard reveals new ground would be part of a wider âregeneration projectâ in Shepherdâs Bush Shepherdâs Bush is likely to be the favoured area for a new QPR home ground, club chief executive Phil Beard has confirmed. QPR owner Tony Fernandes revealed this week that the club are looking at several locations for a new stadium in west London, and is known to favour areas adjacent to Loftus Road and the âpotentialâ offered by Westfield Shopping Centre next to White City station. Beard reiterated that stadium plans remain part of QPRâs long-term ambitions, and said that a new ground would be incorporated into a wider regeneration scheme in the area. âI would say we are looking at the area around Shepherdâs Bush, there are four or five opportunities that we are looking at,â Beard told London24.com. âBut thatâs actually part of a bigger picture. Weâre not just looking at building a new football stadium, I think the days of doing that are probably gone. What you have to do is build a venue where the stadium is the core but there are other things there as well. âIf you look at the short, medium and long-term ambitions for the club, the short-term is to stay in the Premier League this season and beyond, gain some stability. âBeyond that, and something which is not as important in the short or medium term, is building a new stadium as part of a regeneration project. âOur 100 per cent focus is on staying in the best league in the world, because that will allow us to kick on. Everything else we do comes second in relation to that priority to stay in the Premier League.â Before QPR contemplate events beyond the end of this season they plan to further strengthen their squad during January â although Beard conceded that the upcoming transfer window may not be quite as nerve-shredding as the last. âThe aim is to build a squad which has strength in depth, we want to keep on developing it.,â he added. âJanuary will be a busy period but we will be better prepared than we were in the summer. âIn August the takeover happened right in the middle of the transfer window, so Iâll be disappointed if we are as manic. âWe have to spread the net. Up until it came into the Premier League the club hadnât had significant scouting, thatâs one of the things we are developing very quickly.â Follow me on Twitter @QPRTimes. iReader http://www.london24.com/sport/champ..._chief_executive_drops_stadium_hint_1_1141736

Don't edit them Colly. Just say what comes into your mind and without thinking throw it all out there. That's what I do...................................
I have no problem watching our football in a shopping mall, but I'm just wondering how much more shopping/retail space Shepherd's Bush can take. May be Beard is talking about a residential build with the stadium at the "core" or maybe a bigger sports complex, indoor tennis etc
Maybe they'll build a new Wormwood Scrubs complex with the stadium in the middle as a 'community project'!...
I would say it's pretty obvious what beard is talking about is making the stadium multi purpose, so that it can easily accommodate concerts and other sporting events. Phil beard has turned the o2 in to the worlds no 1 entertainments venue in the world. So I'd say this was always tony's plan to make money for the club and to pay for the stadium. When you look at venues in London, there's wembley at 80+ thousand capacity. The 02 at 20 thouand. But after that you've got earls court, Olympia and wembley arena, coming in at 16k, 10k and 8k capacity reapectively. So going by what Tony said in his interview the other day, talking about the 45k mark, this would be the perfect middle option as an entertainments venue. I wouldn't be surprised if the new stadium even had a retractable roof or even indoor if allowed. But I'd say that's the plan and I'd imagine the unigate dairy site will become firm favourite as it would have instant access to west London's biggest transport hub.
45000 QPR fans in a stadium? wonder what the away supports favourite song would be! http://fanchants.co.uk/football-songs/arsenal-chants/where-were-you-when-you-were-****/
If I could have written this article myself it would still be exactly the same! Sound business sense being wrapped around the development of my beloved football club, Could we ask for more. Well... a target date would be nice Phil.
