Met a Chelsea fan today who, by his own admission, was not a lover of QPR. Met in a work context so had to respond politely!!

I stated (with obvious humour) that we were going to win the league next year with which he disagreed. Fair enough so far.

I then went on to state that my belief was that we would finish fairly comfortably above 17th, perhaps even as high as 13th which is where bookies currently have us.

To my amazement, that was not good enough. His belief is that we are still relegation fodder next year!

It made me wonder if he has followed any QPR news at all over the last six weeks or whether his natural prejudice has blinded him to the fact that we now have the England No 2/3 keeper, a plethora of strikers, a mid field to die for and some work in progress (hopefully, not ITK) in the defence.

One of us is deluded. I just hope it is not me.

I think a lot of Chelsea fan's don't believe anything exists outside the Top Six, most of them are the 'Prawn sandwich brigade/Johnny come latelys' who know f*ck-all about real football anyway...

The sad thing is we could be attracting their likes in the very near future...<doh>

Not trying to put a downer on it but it is easy to buy all these players. we need them to gel from the start to give us any chance of having a good season. I for one belive we will finish between 10-15 which would be very good for 2nd season and a good platform to build on.However it is posssible that the team may not gel as quickly as we hope/expect and could be in for a fustrating season.

I am liking the fact that our signing s can all speak english which aids the gelling due to the communication barrier being removed and the majority have had some degree of Premiership experience so understand what it takes to be successful in the league. I am confident we shall shock some people and not have the embarrassment of being rolled over by 6 goals this season.

Basically I think the problem is that a lot of Chelsea “fans” don’t really know anything at all about football.. It’s the downside of success and is the same with a lot of Man United “fans”, and will soon happen to Man City too.. If you ask them who they “support” they’ll just bark back “Chelsea” as a kind of reflex.

It doesn’t really mean “support” as we might know it. You’d be lucky if they can name more than a handful of Chelsea players, and they wouldn’t have a clue about players at any smaller clubs… Not all Chelsea and Man U fans are like this of course, but for every genuine fan there’s got to be at least 2 plastic “fans” out there..

They might as well say that they “support” Barcelona.. If they don’t actually understand and follow the game then it’s kind of meaningless.

Trust me.....if we can survive a season in the premiership with players like Derry and SWP...this season will be a different kettle of fish.

There is no way we will be relegation fodder, unless something terrible happens.....thats the reason we have bought in these players so early...to gel.

Don't think 'gelling' will be a problem, the first 11 won't have changed that much, and also nice long settled pre season together<ok>

You should have asked him if he was there when they got 9000 at home to Hull. He'd probably never heard of us until last October when he watched the game at home in his ill-fitting replica shirt.

People calling us relegation fodder is as stupid as our own fans that think we'll be 8th or 9th.

I think a lot of Chelsea fans hate us more over the JT thing. A work colleague of mine says its all AF fault he lied in Court blah blah. He cannot see or accept AF did nothing wrong. I would imagine most Chelsea fans will be like this from now on. not so long ago they were the minnows they have short memories. I

Good consensus on here then that we are optimistic for 10/11 to 15 finish with a sllight note of caution re the players becoming a cohesive unit togather over the summer.

    DL, any different view?

    Here's the answer for you..

Try asking him ho John Terry is going to deal with Cisse,Tarrabt, Hoillet & Zamo at the same time.

Every one of them is better tn thier opposing players.....

see what he says....After watching JT turn like an ocean liner...put Cisse in his face and watch him squirm!

Truth is none of us (incredibly not even Chelsea fans!) know what is going to happen next season. We could do a lot better than expected, or a lot worse (although I doubt it) or even do exactly as expected, which for each one of is different anyhow.

I'm just looking forward to seeing how this exciting bunch of players play next season and I can't wait to see them in action. Newcastle exceeded expectations last season, Villa didn't. It's a bit of a lottery really.

Great reply Queenslander. Mouth watering prospect. Roll on start of season and 15.9.12 especially though I am likely to be on a Greek Island and lucky son will have my ST.

To be fair, people are gonna write you off until you start winning games no matter who you sign. The players you've acquired haven't necessarily been forced from the clutches of their former clubs, they're mostly peripheral players with no future at the club. Fabio will do well if you use him properly, but he won't be there to spoon feed that over rated chump Taarabt, he'll be there to get one of your full back positions filled with some young quality. Ji Sung Park will obviously work his socks off for you, get you about 7-8 goals a season, but he won't work well with greedy muppets like Taarabt. That guy should have been booted out of the club and shipped to the nearest taker by Hughes, he's not the future at all, he's poor on just about every level and that got found out as soon as he made the step up. Faurlin though, I rate him, be nice to see him get a few games next season.

You make a few interesting points...everything needs to be proven on the pitch. Whilst the players that have been brought in may be peripheral, they bring experience to the team and are generally an improvement on what we already had. With that in mind, I believe it is fair to say that we should be aiming higher than last seasons position. I am also interested to see how Park and Adel will blend - to spin your view on its head, you could almost suggest that Park will be doing a large portion of the workrate that Adel has missing from his game. In other words, they could compliment each other well. Your view on Adel will be well received by some but not many on here...he improved greatly towards the end of the season, against some far bigger and better sides. It was his first full season in the Prem and we are expecting (hoping!) that he continues to improve with a better side around him. Faurlin coming back will be one of our best signings for the season ;)

Mate cannot disagree with a word you've said there. Think a few people may get a few surprises, but again you are correct and we'll happily play the underdog..as per LR last year.
We only beat Chelsea, Aresenal 7 Liverpool last year with goals against Spuds and a few others..Man City got away lightly as well didnt they..Hw much more do you need to show we may not win the league, but we will cause a lot of teams a lot of problems....!

For the record terry....I'm not a Tarbs fan either!

Looking forward to our war..sorry match!

In fairness to the Chelsea fan the bottom is a lot harder to predict than the top. You pretty much know from July which teams will be going for the title but not which teams will be scraping at the bottom. Norwich and Swansea did way better than I thought. I believed Norwich would do the best of the 3 followed by you guys but it was close to call.

I remember hearing all the teams that come up in 10/11 would go straight back down, Newcastle would go down and Wolves would be midtable. A lot of fans are very self-absorbed with their own team they don't take a look at others.

I believe you will finish 10th-12th. I can see you quite easily picking up 30 points or so at home followed by 15/20 away
