QPR boss speaks out on midfielderâs England ambitions - QPR - London 24 Warnock QPR boss speaks out on midfielderâs England ambitions Ian Cooper, QPR correspondent Thursday, September 15, 2011 1:06 PM Warnock tells Wright-Phillips to concentrate on QPR Neil Warnock has told Shaun Wright-Phillips to focus on his form for QPR this season rather than earning an England recall, but still believes the winger can reignite his international career. Wright-Phillips enjoyed an impressive debut for the Rs against Newcastle United on Monday night after his move from Manchester City before the summer transfer window closed. The 29-year-old still harbours hopes of winning back his place in the England squad ahead of next summerâs European Championship, despite not featuring for his country since the qualifier against Macedonia almost a year ago. But Warnock insists Wright-Phillipsâ first priority must be to perform regularly for QPR, and even suggested he may have to wait for Fabio Capello to leave before earning his next international cap. âI think Shaunâs got to play football really,â said Warnock. âShaun should just concentrate on QPR this year, and wait until the managerâs gone for England and start afresh, I think everybody will be given a clean bill of health when Capello leaves. âBefore then heâs just got to maintain the form and the fitness. Itâs great to say he had a great game the other night but heâs got to do that on a regular basis. âIâve said to him âdonât go looking for [an England call-up], just carry on enjoying your gameâ. People canât stop but look at him when heâs in full flight, heâs wonderful to see. âHeâs told me that anyway, heâd love to make the England squad, thatâs his ambition.â Follow Ian Cooper on Twitter @QPRTimes iReader
