Rangers recently handed Hogan Ephraim a one-year extension in order to avert the possibility of losing him for no fee at the end of the season. But Hughes has ruled out holding talks with the likes of Clint Hill and Akos Buzsaky, who reach the end of their current deals this summer, or back-up goalkeeper Radek Cerny, who has suggested he may return to his native Czech Republic if he is not made an offer. And a number of clubs have been alerted to the fact that talks with keeper Paddy Kenny, pencilled in for the start of February, have not taken place. Kenny is under contract until next year and the club discussed a new deal for him prior to Hughes’ arrival. Hughes told West London Sport: “In the case of Hogan Ephraim we felt we wanted to protect the club’s long-term interests. “With the more senior players I’m not yet in a position to have those types of conversations with them. “It’s something we’ll look to address at the end of the season. Until then we need to focus on our target, which has to be to get the points we need in order to stay in the Premier League. “There are a number of players with situations to be resolved but they understand that at this moment in time our focus is on the games coming up.” http://www.westlondonsport.com/qpr/qpr-boss-rules-out-further-contract-talks/ It would be a real travesty if Clint doesn't get a contract extension, regardless of which division we find ourselves in come the summer he more than holds his own. A real pro who has defied all the odds and proved many doubters wrong with some great displays this season. Now he should be the first name on the teamsheet for the rest of the season, we look a different side with/without him in it.
There was a situation up here at Ipswich where Roy Keane refused to sort out contracts before the Summer in which they expired, possibly in a bid to keep them hungry. A lot of players like McAuley (WBA) and Norris (Portsmouth) who were their top performers just walked. Not quite the same situation here but surely the likes of Hill and Buzsaky have performed well enough to warrant new deals (especially as lower earners). Also, I think we could do without a Summer of panic buying goalies.
I think he's right. After all, he doesnt know what league we will be playing in next season. If we go down, then Hill et al wil prob be kept. If we stay up, he'll want to bring in better to avoid struggling. If the senior players walk, i dont think it would bother MH too much.
Norway ! You are quite right. Clint has gotta be the first man on the list for next season whatever League we are in. He's the foundation on which we are built.
Talking of protecting the club's interests there is no mention of Taarabt here sadly. My assumption is that if there is any way the club thought he would stay an offer would be made.
