QPR boss rubbishes Legrottaglie claims By Paul Warburton Jun 17 2011 0Share Add a comment Recommend Neil Warnock Image 4 QPR boss Neil Warnock has so far rebuffed every Italian player put in front of him - and insists he will only sign someone he has seen for himself. The Rs manager made it plain last night that whether Rangers flounder or flourish in the Premier League next season - he alone intends to carry the can for the new recruits. The comment is a veiled hint to major shareholder Flavio Briatore that Warnock is looking for better players than ageing Serie A stalwarts looking for a final pay day in west London. Briatore is again pulling the strings behind the scenes at Loftus Road - and although 34-year-old AC Milan defender Nicola Legrottaglie claimed he spoke to Rs âexecutivesâ this week, Warnock was not one of them. The manager added: "Iâm not against foreign players as such. In fact thereâs three on my list. "But some of the names weâve been linked with over the past few weeks, Iâve either barely heard of - or Iâm not interested. If I get a DVD sent to me and itâs only got the highlights of someoneâs career - it goes straight in the bin. "If itâs got an entire game and that playerâs part in it - then Iâll have a look, or one of my staff will, and then weâll follow it up in person." Rangers have been linked with 37-year-old defender Marco Materazzi, infamous for his part in getting France legend Zinedine Zidane sent off in the 2006 World Cup final, as well as Legrottaglie, and 35-year-old right back Massimo Oddo, also from AC Milan. He is 100% right to stick to that policy too. Last time we went in to the prem we took in 2 international players (Denmark & Sweden), I believe they were signed on the say so of a 3rd party. It was evident very quickly they only came for the money and both were kicked out when we went down.
I can't believe Briatore and his list of Italian has beens is rearing its head again. Did he not learn from last time. Experience is necessary but PL experience with a blend of youth and enthusiasm to stay up. Warnock will get the best out of players , but not Seri A has beens . When will Briatore learn?
Thanks for pointing it out, think I did not know that? or maybe you just want to start on a visitor to your board as normal? The actual players and countries are irrelevent, the money grabbing principle is the same.
Ok, this has got me wondering - who are the three players on his list of foreigners? I remember he went to France to see someone, but I can't even remember which teams were playing. Also, based on no smoke without fire, possibly Saviola? Any thoughts?
Dude, chill out, it was a mere comment, no aggression, do you really think that you are being started on? I would have said that to my best mate. I'm one of the ones that stick up for our message board visitors.
Unreserved apologies to you in that case. If you have seen the history of me and some of the guys on here you will understand my response a little more. No harm done
That's good news. So there'll be no ageing Italian has been's then, other than Briatore & Paladini that is!
Hi Northolt. Some of those delicate little flowers of which you speak do not even get the same treatment from their biggest rivals board
Thai, I've got to say I'm glad you keep coming back - you usually make a few good points when you're here. But I've got to ask, does your continual returning make you a bit of a masochist...?
I guess it does but have decided I am not going to be bullied off your board, or any other board by the simpled minded, small minority. I will continue to make informed comments and remarks. I am lining up a lovely topic for debate in the next week or so - look out for it, should stir up some feelings a bit but it will be constructive as always Does not matter if people or disagree with what I say but it would make a nice change to have a discussion and to hear why people do not agree as opposed to being to '**** off back to your own board' because they are at a loss to say anything else
Hear hear, Northolt. And Thai, no fair. I want an informed and interesting discussion now. At least it might distract a few braincells from worrying about our run-in next year!!
Well f off back to your board until it's ready, and quit keeping me in suspenders....! (only joking!!)
