QPR boss Hughes opens up about Adel Taarabt
    By Paul WarburtonApr
HE ENDED up in the showers before anyone else – but QPR match-winner Adel Taarabt is anything but a drip reckons his boss.

The midfielder’s (pic) red card in the 1-0 win over Tottenham following two yellows made it a regrettable eight this season in the Rs catalogue of indiscipline. But Mark Hughes reckons the mercurial Moroccan’s bow has an extra string or two.

“Adel’s game intelligence was lacking," he said. "He was in the wrong area, or he would make a pass when he shouldn’t.

“Now his understanding and discipline is much better and his defensive duties show a marked difference.

    “I sense he’s maturing.”

There was no feeling of what if? from the man in the opposite dugout who sold him to QPR for a bargain £1million, and Hughes had a fair bit of sympathy for Harry Redknapp as far as that’s concerned.

“You can see why people thought Adel was only worth that in the past, maybe his discipline wasn’t so good. But he’s worth a lot more than that now,” Hughes said.

The manager is now reading Taarabt better than ever, and Hughes also borrowed from Dickens to describe the sending off that saw Rangers down to 10 for the last 15 minutes.

Mr Bumble from Oliver Twist and Sparky seem unlikely bed fellows, but the Rangers boss was adamant referee Mark Clattenburg should have used better judgment after Taarabt prodded a dead ball down the pitch a few yards.

“The law is an ass,” said Hughes after Bumble, “and common sense should have prevailed, but referees are not allowed to do it.

“Adel’s a bit of a loss, but we can cope. Djibril (Cissé) didn’t get a run out against Spurs, so he’s an option for me against Chelsea next week.”

Its exactly right, he was tracking back to his own goal line and kept one of the best RBs in the league in Walker quiet, just think about that. Taarabt scored the winner and nullified Walker.

Who would have thought that would happen at the start of the season?

Flyer, spot on, Adel is a bit like you, showing more maturity and getting better as the season goes on. :1980_boogie_down:

I cant disagree with the post, but, was it only me that thought he was a bit fortunate (or quick thinking) to score that goal on Sat?

Friedel was still setting up his wall, and actually moving to the left with the sun in his eyes..No denying it was a great strike but do we think it would have still gone in had he been ready...?
All credit to AT for taking it when he did though.
i did mention it whilst watching the game, but didnt post until now as i didnt want to spoil the moment....

Sorry if this ha been previously mentioned?....

Not in any way shape or form, it was a great goal. He waited patiently until it was set, you can hear the ref blow the whistle. The goal was a culmination of all the pressure we put Friedel under right from the start. We need to celebrate his talent, new improved work ethic and added defensive qualities. If we stay up I think he will stay and we'll see the real deal next year with MH guidance.

Dont deny that 74, but after watching it half a dozen times on Sat night, even the mate i was with agreed. Stil i suppose thats the plus of having instant replays on the sreen within seconds.

Still agree it was a great strike. I also see this point is mentioned on another site and is splitting the fans.
if you get the chance, watch it over again and see what you think ?

The sun in eyes was deliberate. JB won the toss and switched ends for this very reason. The whistle went and Adel scored, always play to the whistle!! As above it went in so enjoy!

He was clever, he knew the goalie was out of position so didnt have to hit it that hard to beat him, if the goalie was waiting then hed have had to whack it and it would have been a lot harder to get it down.

The sun played a massive part too, its good that we are thinking of how to take advantage in every way possible.
