QPR Boss Harry Redknapp Says Convicted Rapist Ched Evans Should Be Allowed To Play Again

Oldham recently elected against signing the striker…
Queens Park Rangers manager Harry Redknapp believes that convicted rapist Ched Evans should be allowed to play football again, reports ITV.
The former Sheffield United player was reportedly for Oldham Athletic in recent days, but that move now seems to be off the table. Several sponsors including fast food firm Nandos had cut their associations with the club before the transfer was called off.

"I think it's about getting a second chance in life," the QPR manager said.

"It's very difficult, people make mistakes, dreadful mistakes in life, but people go in prison or whatever they do, whether you've murdered someone or whatever, unfortunately a lot of them come out.

"But once you've done your time you've done your time, and somewhere along the line you've got to come out and make a go of your life."

WTF? Got his catchphrase in though.

I agree with the above statement. There is no point in being released from prison, if once you are released you can never continue with your life. I know this shouldn't apply if it puts others in danger, and being monitored by police to avoid repeat offences is wise. The whole point of the judiciary system is that it delivers what it deems a reasonable punishment. Now, whether two and half years in prison is reasonable punishment for rape is a whole other debate...but once you have fulfilled your sentence, surely you have to be able to go back to your life.

Why does he need to publicly comment at all? Is he angling for a spot on Newsnight?

That Pistorius is a good lad and they're a triffic legal team. It's difficult you know.

Wonders never cease and neither do the unnecessary distractions from our crucial games.

I think he went to the same public speaking classes as Glen "tip my toe in ring" Hoddle.

He could decline to comment. It's difficult though.

Of course it may be that he was brought up to be incredibly polite and thinks its rude to say ' not really my business' or 'I'm here to talk about QPR and our match with Burnley'.

That's it! He was once told that if you haven't got anything nice to say (about every single one of our opponents) then don't say anything at all (and he hates awkward silences).

He actually said "he made a terrific mistake!" - does the guy only have a vocabulary of 15 words?

I Think its more of a case that he has shown no remorse in his actions that has caused so much controversy. If he believes that he is innocent and wants his name cleared through an appeal, then that is his right, but he should not think for a second that until that process is completed he should be able to continue his life as if nothing has happened

Maybe so. He certainly comes across as one of the nicest people in football, in my opinion at least.

Can't see anything wrong with him answering Journo's questions. Fair play to him.

In the hypothetical situation that we signed him would anyone honestly stop going? Can't say it would bother me although Lee Hughes would have been a different matter.

It would stop me for sure. The way I see it is he has been convicted and done a bit of time.

I am very close mates with someone who sadly was the victim of a rape. The rapist was caught and did time, about 5 and half years.

OK, some will say yes rape is just awful but he served his sentence, well let me just get this off my chest.

My mate the victim has been scarred for the rest of her life, she did get married but split up, finds it very hard to trust men and has attempted suicide not so long ago. For me rapists should get the same sentence as murderers. If you decide to break the law and completely f**k someone else's life up you should do life yourself.

I really would be very gutted and angry if he was linked to us. Gladly I can't see this one happening!
