Clive's take on Shaun Derry Shaun Derry was initially brought to QPR as cover for the 2010/11 season. His appointment as the new Notts County manager draws an end what turned out to be a unique three year stint with the club. Thanks for posting that Roller, a very forthright and interesting piece on a player who knew his limitations but used them as best he could to become a reliable but never a "flash harry" type of player, but one who could be relied on to do his job and do it well without getting the plaudits he sometimes deserved for a job well done. I too shall join in with many who wish him well in his new managerial role at Nott's county and would have no hesitation in seeing him back at HQ one day in a similiar role.
The part which talks about how he composed himself when sent off at OT sent a genuine shiver down my spine. I loved that season, when we won the league. I went to a lot of games and apart from taraabt, I'm not sure there was anyone more important than Derry. His double act with faulin was exceptional. It was the only time I can recall a rangers team continually closing down the opposition and dictating how the game would be played. Derry and faulin would gang up on the opposition, when in possession, one would force the mistake (usually Derry) and the other would nick the ball and make something happen. Good luck in your new job Mr Derry. I hope you become a top manager and return to lead us to glory one day.
That is a great piece, thanks for posting it Roller. Derry deserves to do well, I really hope it works out for him. He was without doubt one of our few success stories from the past three years or so.
I hated him when he played against us - but I respected him. Someone who made the most of his talent. Bristol City could do with someone like him now - a leader on the pitch
And how unimpressed we all were when Warnock bought him. I just remember thinking, 'why do we want that old crock from Palace?'. How wrong?!
The consummate professional. He's taken on a basket case at County who've changed managers like the weather in recent years. I hope he gets enough time to make a positive impression there...
Great article. I was one of the many that doubted him, but was proved so wrong. Hope he's successful, but he's taken on a tough job.
great piece and good read Derry will definitely go down as one of my fav signings in the last 15 years. Nobody expected much from him, but he alongside Ali got us promoted. Massive respect for a player who was a total Pro.
