Queens Park Rangers make move to sign Manchester City defender Nedum Onuoha By Jason Burt9:59AM GMT 19 Jan 2012 Queens Park Rangers have been given permission to talk to Nedum Onuoha over a £3m move to the Premier League club. QPR’s new manager Mark Hughes hopes to sign the Manchester City player and Chelsea’s Alex to form a new look central defensive partnership in time for Saturday’s vital league match at home to Wigan Athletic. If Hughes signs both Alex – who is also holding talks with QPR after a fee of also around £3m was agreed with Chelsea – and Onuoha it is expected to lead to his new club shelving their interest in Christopher Samba after two bids were rejected by Blackburn Rovers for their captain who has submitted a transfer request. If Onuoha and Alex are signed by QPR it will raise question marks over the future of Anton Ferdinand, as well as Danny Gabbidon, as first-team regulars for the team. Given QPR are due to face Chelsea in the fourth round of the FA Cup next Saturday it could mean that Ferdinand will not face John Terry ahead of the latter’s court appearance for alleged racial abuse. QPR have bid £5m and then £6.5m for Samba who is keen to be reunited with Hughes who signed him for Blackburn. Tottenham Hotspur had been regarded as the favourites to secure the Congo defender but are yet to submit a bid. City had been reluctant to allow Onuoha to leave during this transfer window even though he does not figure in manager Roberto Mancini’s plans. However the 25 year-old had pushed for a move and now appears set to leave. He could also be joined at Loftus Road by the Brazilian striker Henrique. QPR have agreed a deal to sign the 20-year-old, who was the star of the last under-20 World Cup, from his present club Sao Paulo but there is real concern as to whether he will be able to secure a work permit. A hearing has been set for next week. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/queens-park-rangers/9024527/Queens-Park-Rangers-make-move-to-sign-Manchester-City-defender-Nedum-Onuoha.html?
Again, great to bolster the defence but a 0-0 against Wigan will be no good to us. Where's the striker MH?

Alex + Onuoha is better than just Samba. Good bit of business if true. Let blackburn rot with a disgruntled captain.
Onuoha and Samba would be better in my opinion. both have work for MH and knows what he would expect of is players. I think Alex would prefer to go abroad
I'm a big believer that if you sort out the back, the entire team will play with more confidence knowing that it will be a lot more difficult to lose.
personally reckon alex would play alongside anton, onuoha at RB and young would switch over to the left until traore is back. Agreed we need a goal threat mind you. Saying that how many times have we thrown leads at home this year. Norwich, WBA, blackburn all spring to mind. shut outs would have lead to much needed points. i think if we keep a clean sheet on saturday we will win.
also, here's a thought If we do get Onuoha, Samba & Alex - our attacking options at corners and free kicks improve as all have scored goals from set pieces. Gorrks was probably the last defender to score for us with any regularity
I'd take him, especially if he can do this again against Chelsea.
This looks very promising, fingers crossed but agree we need that midfielder and striker, the next 9 games hold the key for us this season if we don't have a good cushion between us and 16th at the end of them I think we will have a great Championship side !!!
Nice goal from Onuoha ,but is he any good? City don't need him ,Sunderland did'nt need him....? Is he english or nigerian? Well ,anyway its just this "clubs agreed a fee"-situation. Negociation of about personal terms then last for another week ,so no help for wigan match......
He wants to come because of Sparky and regular football, and should appease all those on here who want younger players. Can't see anything getting in the way of the transfer.
19/01/2012 by David McIntyre QPR boss Mark Hughes hopes to be given the green light to discuss personal terms with Manchester City defender Nedum Onouha later today. The former England Under-21 international played under Hughes at City, but Rangers were close to capturing Onouha before the Welshman replaced Neil Warnock as manager at Loftus Road. Hughes played down reports a deal has already been agreed but confirmed that significant progress has been made in the bid to bring Onouha to west London. âWeâve expressed our interest and itâs progressing. Hopefully we can make it happen,â said Hughes. âIâm not sure weâve been given permission to speak to him yet but Iâd like to think that some time today Iâll be able to do that.â http://www.westlondonsport.com/qpr/qpr-close-in-on-man-city-defender/?
I think sunderland did want to sign him, i don't think he wanted to go to sunderland. From what i read he did very well there. If he was doing well at city we would not get anywhere near him.
clever work this. pretend to be interested in signing the captain and best player of one of your relegation rivals and then sign two others instead, leaving him out in the cold! very sneaky - i like it
